TFC vs. Tauro FC - Sept. 20, 2011

Recommended Posts

Good ol' CONCACAF TV missing the feed for yet another TFC CCL match. I'm sure it'll cut in randomly at about the 13th minute, and we'll have already missed a goal or something.

Anyway, *****ing aside, this should be a cake walk for TFC. Anything less is a massive disappointment.

Not to keep harping on it but Broadhead said Andy Iro was "one of the best defenders." WTF?

Turns out Broadhead is correct. Iro is one of our best defenders... you know, when a former German international basically plays his position for him. Winter is a genius.

mserson - you are right to harp on it. That was the worst commentary for any soccer game I have ever watched/heard. Misidentifying players, glorifying even the most mundane play by Frings (I like him, but geeze), and the one about Iro made me LOL.

Yikes. That was BAAAAD. On a night which wasn't exactly Iro's finest either, and that's saying something. You know, at some point the commentator has to throw away the script handed to him, this was probably one of those nights.

I just don't get it. There seems to be some love around here for Mr Iro and Kocic but I just don't see it. For the life of me I don't. Kocic is at best years away from anything resembling an MLS #1 (if ever) and Iro would be on the 1st plane back to jolly ol' Engerland if it were down to me but whatever. It's Winter's gig now. It's him that has to wear the squad selection.

Must be glad for the points but Geez, TFC makes things harder than they need to be don't they? Great that they're using the field and all but tonight should have been a night for happy dramatics. Turns out it was not.

Re Bald Euros; When all else fails, isolate. At that point (at least) you have the proverbial "puncher's chance". You can't teach height and you can't teach speed. You either got it or you don't so you may as well play to any advantage that you might have. That's the reality of life in an salary capped league and isn't that reality just MLS all over?

I wasn't aware there was any love for Iro anywhere, except maybe Columbus. In the part of the stadium where I sit, everyone groans whenever he dwells too long on the ball or needlessly hoofs it out of bounds instead of passing it to three of his open teammates. This happens about 7 times a game on average. He and Johnson were the only ones I thought had an off-game tonight though (Johnson because he didn't seem to understand how give and goes work).

Overall though it was a competent, professional performance. The team lacks speed without Plata but they have won two in a row without him now by adjusting their style up front and by having Frings act as a sweeper at the back (which does take away from generating offense with one less guy in the midfield, but it has paid off overall thus far). With 2 games to go TFC are very much alive in this competition.

Well that commenting duo would be the anti-dobson and forrest duo. They were cheerleading and talking like the viewers were 10 year olds. Frings heads the ball out - "Look how smart he is". That was the script for Frings. How many times did Broadhead mention how good Eckersley was and the great skillful bicycle kick clear (it was nice, but not worthy of complimenting it half a dozen times). Yeah - and Iro the great defender. I'll take Dobson and Forrest anyday.
