paul-collins
The Canadian Soccer Association today released ticket sales information for the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament that will be held at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver from 19-29 January 2012. Tournament packages will go on sale 9 September 2011 with affordable prices featuring an average ticket price of just under $6.50 per match across 15 matches in eight days of world class soccer. The competition will see Canada, the reigning CONCACAF women’s champion, FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 finalist USA, Mexico, three teams from the Caribbean and two from Central America contest for the region’s two berths at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in London. All tournament packages will be available in three price categories ($69/$95/$125) and include six doubleheaders (19-24 January), one all-important semi-final doubleheader (January 27) and the final (January 29). The series package offers a savings of 33% over individual ticket prices. In addition, family packages of four tickets will see an additional 15% off the already reduced series package price, and group packages of for ten or more will benefit from an additional 20% off the series package reduced rate. Individual tickets will go on sale in late October, following the official draw. A complete list of ticket options and prices will be available on canadasoccer.com and Ticketmaster.ca. As part of today’s announcement, the official event logo was also unveiled in Vancouver. In keeping with traditional CONCACAF logo style, the tournament’s emblem illustrates the newly revitalized BC Place Stadium over the Canadian flag. (note: see avatar) This marks the third edition of CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament, held every four years since 2004. In 2008, the Canadian team went undefeated before finishing in second place behind CONCACAF champion USA, falling in the championship final on kicks from the penalty mark. Canada still advanced to the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament for the first time where it reached the quarter-final stage. Once again, Canada’s nemesis was USA: the Canadians came within an extra-time goal of knocking off the eventual Olympic champions, but had to settle for an eighth-place finish. In the most recent CONCACAF championship in November 2010, Canada was crowned continental winners ahead of USA (and runner-up Mexico). The four-top teams at the 2010 CONCACAF championship were Canada, Mexico, USA and Costa Rica. Canada and Mexico have both qualified for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament once while USA has qualified all four times, winning three gold medals and one silver medal. http://canadasoccer.com/tourney/FIFA_WWC/olympic.asp (Hah! paul-collins
http://vancouversouthsiders.bigcartel.com/product/2012-olympic-women-s-qualification-tournament-southsiders-section BC Place in Vancouver will host the CONCACAF women's qualifying for the 2012 Olympics, the Canadian Soccer Association announced Tuesday. It will be the lone venue for the eight-team event January 19-29. Canada, the reigning CONCACAF women's champion, will be joined by the United States, Mexico, three teams from the Caribbean and two from Central America in the contest for the region's two berths at the London Games. The Tournament is 15 games over 10 days and the Southsiders have an opportunity to buy our section at BC Place for this event. Tickets will be $55 + plus fees. That's right 15 matches for only $55. That's less than $4/match. This tournament is important for us for two reasons: 1) We need to show the CSA that Vancouver fans will show up for events. If we don't support their events our chances of getting Men's matches will be very low. 2) This will be a very nice little pre-season for the Southsiders to get into match-form prior to the start of the MLS season. The window of this price is extremely limited so orders must be in by Sept 8th
Blue and White Army
It's a fantastic deal, and it will be the first time in 4.5 years that Vancouver has hosted a Canadian national team of either gender and any age level! I'm looking forward to a rocking Voyageurs' section. Allez les rouges!
paul-collins
Tickets for the remainder of the stadium go on sale today. I'm going to go for midfield seats instead of sitting in the endzone. Ticketbastard says they go on sale 10am but that must be PDT because they're not on sale yet... Lord Bob
The CSA is just rolling out their ad campaign in the past couple weeks: there have been radio ads and yesterday I took a Canada Line train covered in CanWNT propaganda home.

Lord Bob
I doubt ticket sales are huge. Apparently the CSA only really started reaching out to youth clubs in the middle of last week (!), which is the exact opposite of how they filled the house for the U-19 tournament all those years ago. Still, media interest looks huge. There were two big boxes of press passes at the press conference today and the conference itself was wiggling-room-only. Interesting that Matheson is still in town with the team even though she's obviously not participating in the tournament. She said she didn't have any specific job to do (though she's going to help out if she can); she's just hanging with her teammates.

Great for the Southsiders.....but what about the rest of us who are not Southsiders.....it would be nice if plans for co-ordinated tickets purchses or meet-ups before and after the game are posted on here. and no everyone in the world is not on Facebook. Regardless I'll be there tonight.
Guest piltdownmanWC
The Southsiders will be at Doolin's Irish Pub starting at around 3pm today. We will head off to the stadium at 4:20pm. We will have Umbro Canada Scarves for sale and hopefully Canada Flags if we can find some today for a reasonable price. We will also have another event Pre-Match Event at Doolin's on Saturday Afternoon at around 2pm. Before both the Semifinal and Final we will be meeting at Doolin's and then having a big rally through Downtown at 4:15 to the stadium. We also will likely end up at Doolin's after most matches. All all welcome to join us. You don't have to be a Southsider. There is also a tweetup being organized by @Ingridium in Vancouver at Mahony And Sons at the New Trade an Convention Centre. Although no details have been released. If you want to join the Southsiders Section we still have one Tournament Package left: http://vancouversouthsiders.bigcartel.com we also have a ticket exchange on our forum: http://vancouversouthsiders.ca/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/21/official-ticket-exchange-thread I'm @piltdownman7 on twitter if you want to follow me. Blackdude
Will tonight be a slaughter? Anyone find bettings sites for the tournament. I found for the match. Canada only -1200 favourites against Haiti. Which is weird considering Costa Rica are -2000 favourites against Cuba.

I suspect it means that you won't make much betting on Canada or Costa Rica tonight.

munseahawk
Thanks for that. Now to reverse that, I guess +1200 means bet $100 and win $1200?
