Great, rather insightful (inciteful?) thread on Edgar from a fan forum: http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=104&fid=297&act=1&mid=2116567449

Not sure I would call that insightful, they seem as confused as we are about his situation. The majority opinion seems to be that when played at CB he looks pretty good but no manager gives him any sort of run in the position to prove himself and no one seems to understand why although a few speculations are made.

And funny enough Hart has never gave him much a chance either although we certainly could use a CB upgrade. Either Edgar is just really unlucky or there is something else we and the fans on this forum do not know about that is hindering his progress. He may also possibly just not be good enough but it does not seem anyone has given him enough of a chance to play regularly in his position to prove this one way or another.

Edgar's lack of playing time does appear to be puzzling, but I do remember a match when he was with Newcastle and he was at centre back against West Ham and their star at the time (his name escapes me, he later played in MLS) very easily muscled Edgar off the ball and scored. Afterwards there was talk of Edgar doing a summer exercise program to bulk up so as to be able to handle the physical challenges. Maybe his problem is that he is still too slight for the centre back position (the Championship is a very physical league) and hasn't been tried at centre half, a position that he played on occasion for the U-20's.

Crazy to read that the last time St. Johnstone won at Celtic it was none other than Nik Dasovic who scored the match's only goal:

"It was there for all to see on page 10 of the Parkhead match programme – details of St Johnstone’s last win in the East End of Glasgow.

It was way back in 1998 and a goal from Canadian Nick Dasovic proved to be the only one of the game, giving Saints an unlikely success against the then reigning champions. Thirteen years later and a Canadian was again among those celebrating a single goal Perth success at cavernous Celtic Park.

Replacement Marcus Haber played a key role after his 71st minute introduction, holding the ball up superbly and losing hardly a challenge. But he wasn’t the match winner."

I remember that last victory. Good to hear Haber getting some praise.

You are thinking of Dean Ashton but he never played in MLS

Guest Brethers
Scotland - League Cup

2:45 pm ET

St Johnstone (Haber) v Livingston

England - League Cup

3 pm ET

Blackburn (Hoilett) v Sheffield Wednesday

Both on the bench. Hoilett probably being rested for the league and I assume St. Johnston don't want to bring in Haber in too quickly after his injury
