Gerba might leave Montreal / Saputo thinks critics are very harsh (?!?!?!?!? x 2)

Well he has been the least appealing coach that i have witnessed. I didnt like the moves and type of players he favoured, where he took the team, and the game that his teams played. And he can come accross as arrogant. But in no way can anybody say he is incompetent, he has earned his stripes in this league and there certainly is a time and place for his philosphy and style in any league. Look anywhere around the world.

I disagree, there are coaches who can play this tactic well and build good teams using it and coaches who can not. He clearly falls into the latter category in my opinion unless there was some other ulterior reason that he dismantled TFC. He took over a mediocre team with about a 50% chance of making the playoffs and quickly turned it into a terrible team with no chance of making the playoffs. That is incompetence in my books.

There were reasons why he took that team apart though. The year prior the TFC locker room was badly divided and a severe house cleaning of the bad apples was required. I also believe Preki thought he had more time to build his team than he was given. So basically what you saw was a tear down project interrupted half way through the work.

I don't like the way he has his teams play, but i do think when implemented properly his methods work. He's like the Mike Keenan of MLS, if you have a crappy team in need of an ass kicking to turn things around, he's your guy.

Yes and furthermore, its been said in private and public, that what the big brass didnt like was that he tore everything down. Getting rid of the bad apples and instilling some discipline was one thing but tearing it all down was another. They saw a team that the year before had crapped the bed in their final game against very worst team in the league but that otherwise would have made the playoffs comfortably as a middle seed. And they saw the team that got in in their place go on to win the MLS Cup.

Quite honestly, I can see why the Impact would have an interest in Preki. If you look at their history and the type of player that NDS was, it makes a lot sense. NDS was workman like player and tough disciplinarian whose style became synonymous with the game at the USL/NASL/CSL levels, its the kind of game he knows. And when the Impact had a lot of success, such as under Bob Lilly when they had raided the best players from a defunct championship Hershey team, they played pretty much the exact kind of game that you would see under Preki. It would be a very positional game and a lot of pressure on the ball.

Also, when you are a first year team, you are going to have to make do with the limited resources you have, who better than Preki can get achieve team success by using expensive players. The downside of course, as i said earlier, is that you will have a team and games that are indistinguishable from the USL/NASL and yet your telling fans that MLS is level up. That's going to be a tough sell but then again, Judging from the fan based thats not behind the nets, maybe they are not as discriminating anyways.
