Bad News....

BOCHUM, Germany -- Christine Sinclair may be unable to play in Canada's next game at the FIFA Women's World Cup.

The team captain was unable to participate in Tuesday's practice and is unsure if she'll be cleared to face France on Thursday.

Sinclair had her nose broken during Canada's opening 2-1 loss to Germany.

She was later fitted for a protective mask but says she won't be cleared to start running again until the pain goes away.

With the top two teams in each group moving on, Canada needs at least a draw against France to keep its hopes alive.

She will play. At worst she may not start to see how it goes but I would be very surprised if she didn't play. Practice is one thing. The game is completely different. At this point, the practices are just to repair mistakes and smooth tactics over a little bit; and getting the subs good workouts. She does not need to actively participate in those to play in the game.

After a similar injury I was told the nose was soft tissue and the real concern and damage was past the bridge.

If Sinclair is down we have a great bench with options ranging from playmaking to finishing to speed/power.

I've never heard of a broken nose ending an athlete's career. Has anyone heard of a similar career ending injury?

Sadly yes, Marcel de Pouffe, famed French sommelier.

It's how it is diagnosed and then treated. If not treated right or missed it could be worse and get worse over the long term......NHL good example.

A broken nose typically hurts, bleeds and swells. Signs and symptoms of a broken nose may appear immediately or they may take up to three days to show, according to the Mayo Clinic

Not having her play would be a big loss but there's other options up front who can score. It might end up being Filigno's big breakout game. A tie should be enough to secure us a spot in the next round assuming Sinclair is back against Nigeria and we win by a fair amount in that game.

Having had my beak rearranged by a hockey stick years ago, I think she should be fine. The blow was only to the nose and the elbow was not full on but rather from the side. Doubt very much she has concussion problems and the pain isn't that bad.

Actually with such a conspicuos injury it will be hard for her to be "A Target", without the refs attention been drawn to it. First few bustling runs that earn a whistle may see the french backing off, allowing her to play a free flowing game.

(Hush Myself! I sound like a pundit!)
