TORONTO — Toronto FC are bracing for the worst after Adrian Cann left training on crutches on Tuesday following a freak knee injury.

The 30-year-old veteran caught his foot on the turf and went down in pain during Tuesday’s session at Cherry Beach. He was helped off the field and later appeared at the sideline with crutches and what appeared to be an inflatable cast on his right knee.

Cann was then carried across the field to the parking lot to be transported to hospital for further evaluation.

“It looks serious but we’ll have to wait for all the information,” head coach Aron Winter said after training. “Let’s think positive, that it’s not as serious as we think.”

Why would they be training on fieldturf when the game is at home on Saturday on grass? If there is a reason why they have to then why not water it like they used to at BMO field before games if the problem was that it was too dry? On the bright side the new practice facility will solve these sorts of issues next season if dealing with the City of Toronto is what has created the issues in that regard. Beyond that with Williams away with Jamaica looks like it will have to be Attakora and Harden. I have vague recollections of that pairing at centre back not going too well the last time it was tried. Some sort of move for an experienced player at that position will probably have to be made and it already seemed to be on Winter's wish list in the post-match press conference after the Union game.

This wouldn't have happened if they hadn't decided to do their stupid public practice at Cherry Beach. If people want to watch the team train they should be able to cart their asses to Oakville.

Unfortunately this incident will just add fuel to the anti-FieldTurf lobby's fire. There is a world of difference between FieldTurf on a worn out community pitch and that used at Empire Field or BC Place. No comparison.

But why the almost obsessive focus on FieldTurf crumb rubber crap anyway? There are better options for completely fake turf. Limonta out of Italy does a great one that is cork & coconut shell infill that has no heat island so you don't have to water the stupid stuff. Did FieldTurf spend a bunch of money in the right places (ie decission makers wallets) to get their lousy product put in everywhere? Yes it is cheaper but there is a reason for that, IT'S CHEAP SH!TE.

Someone who would know told me a couple of Championship clubs had asked about Nana last season. Now he's linked with Shrewsbury? Ok, they're perennials favourites to promote from League Two, but is that really the level he's capable of playing at? Awful move if it happens.

No way would he be able to get a work permit given his lack of CMNT appearances. Now thoroughly debunked on the RPB board with the player himself even providing a quote on twitter via John Molinaro:

Not true. Far from it. First and foremost I can't even get a work permit for England. Just another rumour being started.

Having watched the Torquay vs Stevanage playoff final last weekend (bit of an eye opener in terms of the overall lack of skill on display) I would agree that he realistically could set his sights somewhat higher than that if he were able to get a work permit. The Championship might be pushing it a bit in terms of being a regular starter though. Still think Scandinavia is his best bet.

The watering is not for heat, at least at Empire Field and Quest in Seattle it isn't.
