jpoma
Does anyone know who owns the Toronto Blizzard name/logo etc.?
BringBackTheBlizzard
Easy enough to check online using the search function of Canada's Trademark register. From what I remember from the last time I did that it had been allowed to lapse shortly after the CUSL plan fell through so the answer is probably nobody. Wait, wait, wait...the Toronto Blizzard name is available, in a city that just had two CSL clubs rebrand in the past year, and nobody has taken it?? BringBackTheBlizzard
Hunt around that website and you'll probably find the answer to questions like that. Not something to do lightly on a whim I think as you can quickly run into legal issues. A company called London Drugs Limited objected to FC London, for example: http://www.cipo.ic.gc.ca/app/opic-cipo/trdmrks/srch/vwTrdmrk.do;jsessionid=0001YEeG4PaVeobULzqfCFDPT-P:2IILP9AC4K?lang=eng&status=OK&fileNumber=1446937&extension=0&startingDocumentIndexOnPage=1 On Blizzard there are lots of possible issues because the word is used so widely for commercial products: http://www.cipo.ic.gc.ca/app/opic-cipo/trdmrks/srch/cntnBscSrch.do;jsessionid=0001YEeG4PaVeobULzqfCFDPT-P:2IILP9AC4K?textField1=Blizzard&selectField1=tmlookup_ext&useblg=bscSrch.do%3Flang%3Deng&languageDirection=f〈=eng&submitButton=Search
Macksam
Would somebody be able to purchase the name outright?
Richard
If the Canadian Intellectual Property Office accepts the trademark registration and you're willing to fight off any challenges then the mark is yours.
