Soccerpro
Newcastle taking second look at City’s Elbourne Halifax teenager Liam Elbourne’s tour of English Premier League soccer clubs last month has earned him an invite to return. Elbourne, a student at Halifax Grammar School and member of the Halifax City and the provincial under-16 squads, attended youth academies at Newcastle United, Leeds United and Middlesbrough FC during his one-month visit. Newcastle reserve team coach Peter Beardsley has invited Elbourne back for a second trial later in the year. Elbourne, a member of the National Training Centre Atlantic, attended an invitation-only trial to the Vancouver Whitecaps’ youth academy in March. ThiKu
gotta love how Canadian MLS teams can spit in the face of FIFA's 90-minute rule! Good luck to the lad! He'll certainly enjoy the USSDA environment, I'm sure.
Lord Bob
I will be so bloody interested to see this kid. I'm reminded of Marco Bustos, the famous Liverpool trialist, who joined the Whitecaps and so far the U-16 level has mostly been a substitute who gets shouted at to work harder a lot... Soccerpro
I'm glad to see a kid from the east coast getting a chance. As hard as it is for most kids in this country to get professional soccer opportunities, it's 10 times harder for a kid living in N.S than one living in one of the four big provinces. Raven
It mentions in the article that Vancouver can only get players "Because of MLS territorial restrictions, only players from B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Eastern Canada are eligible." Off Topic, but anyone know Montreal's territorial rights? and yes, as someone who lived 25 years in the Maritimes, glad to see someone get thier chance
ThiKu
I thought TFC had Manitoba? Anyway, TFC and MTL have just their own provinces I think due to population density? My guess.
Ivan
Pretty sure Toronto is 100 mile radius, hence VWFC able to sign Alderson, Cain & Polakiewicz among others.
TFC07
TFC only has GTA and Hamilton area. Rest of Ontario (maybe excluding eastern Ontario) is open season. Any MLS clubs can claim a player there. BTW, I am surprised Vancouver has Eastern Canada rights not Montreal.

Califax
BTW, I am surprised Vancouver has Eastern Canada rights not Montreal. Makes more sense for it to be montreal. Glad to see the kid do well, sorry to see he has to spend any time in BC.

Any MLS clubs can claim a player there. BTW, I am surprised Vancouver has Eastern Canada rights not Montreal. I don't think Vancouver has exclusive rights to Eastern Canada players. I think what the article means is that only players from Vancouver's exclusive zone AND from non-exclusive areas open to all clubs are eligible for Vancouver's Academy. I think Eastern Canadian players are eligible to enter any of the 3 MLS club academies whereas those in BC would have to go to the Caps Academy and those in GTA to TFC's and those in Quebec to the Impact Academy. Tuscan
TFC also has contracts with a few specific soccer groups. The Saskatchewan Huskies Academy, run by Bryce Chapman (a young coach who will hopefully keep on the path of gaining his higher level licenses), is partnered with TFCA. The Whitecaps are the only pro side invited to the SaskMan RTCs, but at minimum TFC (and FCE apparently, as Brett Levi, a Huskies Academy player, recently had a trial with them) have exclusive access to the Huskies Academy.
