Simeon isn't a striker on the Canadian Team... I'm not familiar with the Norwich City formations but is it time Hart considered switching out of the 4-5-1/4-3-3 for a 4-4-2? Personally I'd like to see Friend and Jackson up front, not all the time, but at least to see how it works.

Think about what you sacrifice for an extra striker, for the style of game we need to play to be successful we can't afford to play that imo and I'm not talking about dead ball. If Jackson is quality maybe in time it will be best if he is in that right wing role as he'll be involved in the midfield and attack

I'm probably over simplifying things, but if the guy scores goals let's get him into a position that gives him more opportunities. I don't think he's a stand alone striker so a 4-4-2 seems like a fit. I think the style of game we need to play will be dictated by the situation, whether it's up or down goals, opposition formations, etc. To continually maintain the 4-5-1/4-3-3 will (if it hasn't already) become predictable and while it is somewhat flexible can be game planned against easily. Especially considering we haven't been working on some other formations in competition. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's the way I see it.

I would cream my pants for a 4-4-2

Simpson and Jackson as the attackers.

DeRo on top of the mid diamond with Hutch/WillyJ on the sides and JDG feeling them the ball.

Klukow and De Jong pushing up the wings and McKenna and Hainault in front of Borjan.

Probably one of the most dangerous starting 11's Canada could put out there.

+1 Love the sounds of that...

But who do you put at right back? De Jong and Kluk are both left footed which kinda makes it useless pushing one of them up the flank and crossing from deep with their off foot. I still like McKenna Jakovic as the top pairing and I would put Jackson with Gerba up top, Simpson on the left, hutch at the top of the diamond, Willy J out right and jdg at the back of the diamond.

So basically (for the GC imo) its

----------Gerba----Jackson-----------

---------------Hutch-------------------

Simpson------------------------Johnson

---------------De Guzman-------------

Klukowski----McKenna--Jakovic---Ledgerwood?

----------------Borjan-------------------------

vs.

---------------Gerba-----------------

Simpson------------------Jackson

--------------Hutchinson-------------

------------JDG----Johnson------------

Kluko----Mckenna---Jakovic--????

---------------Borjan----------------------

I still prefer Hart's formation as I think it fits the majority of players comfort zones more than the 4-4-2 diamond does, even though I know everyone is on a high from Jacko we need to think about the team and apparently they looked good vs. Belarus. Hutchinson gets the playmaker role in both formations but in Hart's he has more support which he will surely need as teams will look to shut him down. Putting Johnson in the middle is the best move we can make imo, the guy can cover two positions at once allowing him to get forward and not be a liability. Im confident Jackson can adapt to the right wing role and be more effective, look at what time did for him at Gillingham and now Norwich he just needs time.

Can both not be used?

Stick with the 4-5-1 we're working on, but move into a 4-4-2 in games where we need to score?

Jackson just seems so comfortable in the middle of the field and didn't look very strong vs Greece at all out on the wing. I don't think we're getting the best out of him by playing him out wide, even with all the time in the world, I don't see him being more effective on the wing than more central.

Something I have been asking myself is....why not try Jamie Peters at the right midfield position, sure he is not playing but neither is McKenna or Kulkowski for that matter. Speaking of Kulkowski I think De Jong will push him out as he is more game fit and in good form but of course it comes down to training and either way it is comforting to know we have two solid options there. Right back is the biggest concern for me, Ledgerwood may be the answer there, and lets not forget that Hainaunt can play there as well, (as can Straith).

Edit: Also, regarding Peters on the right wing you get the same thing you do from Jackson...lots of pace...plus you can free up Jackson to play closer to goal
