USOC- Jakovic in on min 41 for DC United vs Philadelphia . DC fielding mostly reserves but Dejan has gone in to replace an injured player, Brasesco. No Onstad.

"The Philadelphia Union were eliminated from US Open Cup play Wednesday, falling 4-2 in penalty kicks to D.C. United after a 2-2 draw in regulation at the Maryland SoccerPlex."

- Houston fielded an understrength side vs SKC - Hainault was rested as they lost 1-0 in injury time to a goal set up by Bunbury.

Will Johnson starts for RSL and gets the captain's armband - plays 87 minutes (ejected in the 87th after a second yellow in some sort of a shoving match? It didn't look like he was going to be sent off until New England complained). 3 reds handed out by the ref in this game.

Jakovic played 90 for DC. Jazic played 90 for Chivas.

For those inquiring minds out there, it was Jasen Anno with the whistle yesterday, not Toledo.

Johnson is out of the RSL-Colorado match with a red-card in the last match, but he broke his thumb in three places so it wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Speaking of Will, some great quotes on him here:

"If you’re wondering why every team doesn’t just do this (who doesn’t want to appear to have 13 players on the field?!?) it’s because getting dudes to effectively play two positions at once is really hard. It’s rare to find players who can play two positions at one time. They have to be quick, insanely fit, insanely hard working, technically sound, and smart as balls. Good luck finding a midfielder who fits all of these criteria. Luckily for RSL and RSL fans, Will Johnson does, and as a result, he might be the most criminally underrated player in MLS. He’s always in the right place in the right time, and I’d be willing to bet he covers more ground per game, on average, than just about anyone in the league."

Yeah, but he can't be any good because he plays in MLS! LOL!

Sutton article ahead of Red Bulls' match vs Montreal: http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Playing+Impact+prepared+Sutton/4752620/story.html

“Coming to New York from Toronto FC (of MLS) was a good change for me,” Sutton said. “It was just that it was a different mentality. Here we’re expected to win. That’s exactly how it was in Montreal, too. After I left Montreal to go to Toronto, the attitude was we weren’t expecting to win,” the 34-year-old added. “The team there had some rough years, I think, because of it. They’re still having some tough times.

FWIW, Jazic and Jakovic are both injured at the moment, and Sutton seems to have lost his starting spot again at NY.

Sutton played very well against TFC, but TSN broadcasting crew mentioned that NYRB is looking to sign a higher profile keeper. Sutton and Coundoul (who was also very inconsistent of late) will apparently battle for backup spot.

Aug. 6

-Jazic played 90 in a 2-1 Chivas victory over NE.

-Hainault played 90 in a 1-1 draw with Philadelphia. At some point does his regular football usurp McKenna's benchwarming?

- Will Johnson played the first 87 minutes, picking up a yellow, in RSL's impressive 3-0 drubbing of New York

- Attakora sat on the bench as San Jose earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Portland. Like JDG, when was the last time he was healthy for more than a week or two. Feel for him.

- DDR put on a clinic for DC, scoring three and playing the full 90 as they drew Toronto 3-3. Jakovic also played 90.

DeRo sets up 2 goals for DC and also goes 90 along with Jakovic as DC beats Vancouver 4-0. Teibert & Davies not dressed for Vancouver once again.

Will Johnson goes 90 for RSL, picks up a yellow and has a fantastic volley saved for what would have been an equalizing injury-time goal against TFC. De Guzman and Stinson start for TFC, Stinson is replaced with about 15 minutes to go by Doneil Henry (playing out of position). Dunfield (who Winter never seems to play at the same time as De Guzman) and Morgan were dressed but don't make it off the bench. Zavarise, Cann & Lindsey all out injured, the other young Canucks (Cordon, Makabuya) not dressed (as has been the case for some time).

Not sure if Nana is injured again but he wasn't dressed for San Jose who lose 2-1 to Colorado. Hainault & Houston play today.
