Richard
An asset (if we can call it that) is only worth what somebody is willing to pay. Estimates by non-buyers are pretty much worthless. I estimate that my house is worth $3 million, anybody interested in opening their chequebook?
SthMelbRed
At that bargain? I'd say a ton of people. TFC's value is estimated at around $100 million, as mentioned in this article. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/rob-magazine/can-soccer-dethrone-hockey-as-canadas-national-game/article1918123/ Since none of us are on the verge of buying any kind of sporting team of note, let's not bother with the valuation of the business. For fans, the only value is in the winning and/or losing. Since TFC fans' experience is almost exclusively that of losing, what value does this team have for them? Richard
Ah, so you figure my house is not worth $3 million despite my having publicised the 'fact'.
BearcatSA
^Haven't seen your house...could be worth $3 million (you do live in Vancouver!), but I am happy where I am. (As implied in my original post, I did like and acknowledge your point, nonetheless)
Richard
I know, but it's been fun ;-)
Ivan
Seriously. Richard speculates no one would pay 10 million for TFC. Sports financial writers in the Globe & Mail speculate TFC could be worth up to 100 million. Who do you believe may have the better insight? Thought so. I'm with you too Rudi. BearcatSA
I'm just "taking the piss" with both sides of the argument about a club's worth. And no, Richard, I'm still not buying your house:)
Richard
Aw gee, come on, it really is worth every bit of $3 million, I saw it on the web so it must be true!
