Raven
Based on this blog (french) http://soccerphil.wordpress.com/2011/02/21/coupe-des-voyageurs-au-feminin-version-2011/ Basically saying it is time to start awarding the cup to women again. Are there any thoughts as to awarding a version to the Canadian women's team this year??

Admin
But who are we giving it to? The Voyageurs Cup filled a void, we can't award a cup to team that already wins a cup... Unless you are talking about awarding something to the women's team but for what? I would like to do something I am curious where/how it would fit in so it makes sense. Guest Ed
I'm a supporter of our women's national team but what the hell does the Voyageurs Cup have to do with our women??? The Voyageurs cup is awarded to the best men's professional Cdn club team each year. There are no pro women's teams in Canada.
Jeremy
Well the Cup could be awarded at the end of a tournament (that does not yet exist) between women's club all over the country... Do they really need to be professional? There's at least 4 teams in the country, so they could have a tournament as big as the men's, at least. the blogger suggests that with television rights (probably very small) and a big sponsor, it could pay for travel fees and so the eastern and western clubs would play each other. The amateur senior women's championship already exists, and already has a cup. Has the blogger lost his marbles?
Jeremy
He also says that the V Cup has been awarded from 04 to 06 - A West Cup and an East Cup. But if a Cup already exists then I don't see why there should be another one.
Guest Ed
It's not the Voyageurs Cup. Seems like the earth is flat if Wikipedia says so. Here is the Wikipedia entry in question. I don't recall 'the Voyageurs' having proposed a Voyageurs Cup East and Voyageurs Cup West. "For womenThere is also a Voyageurs Cup West for Women and Voyageurs Cup East for Women awarded since 2004. The first Women's Voyageurs Super Cup was contested in 2006."
KAS
The V Cup didn't get much attention outside of this forum until the birth of both TFC and the CCL. TFC increased public/media interest in Canadian soccer, while the CCL led to the real need to have an officially declared Canadian club champion. Figuring out a W-League champion to award one trophy to would be nice - and it would closely approximate what the V Cup initially was for Canada's three USL A League teams - but it would not really do much. If Canada gets two or three WPS teams (Vancouver will do it once they are settled into MLS - if the WPS still exists then - but MLSE won't until atleast some WPS clubs approach profitability), then a "Lady's Voyageurs Cup" would be a good idea. If a women's CCL ever develops, then it will be needed. GOBIGRED seems to be shut down alot, but a shared project with them or others in the future might be a good idea since some of the guys here would never even toss a penny towards women's soccer so a fundraising partner might be needed to ensure that any new trophy is atleast as nice as the V Cup. argh1
There was a Womens V-Cup I donated towards it although I don't believe any hardware was bought, The East/West model was used for teams in the USL W-League DJT would have more info on it as he was in charge at the time. Trident
The thing that made the Vcup relevant was the LdC. The women's game doesnt really have a thing like that set up, and it would need as much visibility as the men's to really work out. But I thought they already have a championship?
