David (Junior) Hoilett will he be with our National Team or Jamaica?

Thing is these guys tend to still view themselves as Canadians and are proud of that fact. They view what team they play for on the World stage as a business or goal oriented decision, so not surprising that they would wear Canadian gear introduce themselves as Canadian etc. (referring to JDG2, Hoilett, OH)

I disagree,

JDG2 gave up his canadian citizenship, OH jumped ship at the first opportunity, they just say they are still canadian as to calm us the supporters, i have a different feeling about Hoilett

Saying they are still Canadian does not calm supporters, in fact its actually the opposite. I'm not saying Hoilett is the same as them, but if he was committed to representing Canada he would have done so or he would have come out saying he will do so 100% or made a statement saying he will be there for the Gold Cup. Obviously I would like to have him in the fold, but lets be serious the only reason he has'nt committed is because he is not sure that he wants to play for Canada.

That's a different one actually. That one has your name and a number on the back like a jersey, the one I have (and the one in the video) simply says CANADA in an arc on the back with another (larger) Canadian flag patch underneath. Also doesn't say CANADA under the flag on the front, but says it on the sleeve underneath the number 5.

I got mine while away in Indonesia last June for pretty cheap, like 60-70 CDN or so. When I got back I think I saw them at the Bay for about 140.

Part of me wanted him to trip over one of those cement balls.

The other part of me wanted him to say he's excited to go to Turkey at the end of the month and make his debut for Canada.

Interview with Junior posted on Soccernet today regarding his increased playing time under manager Steve Kean.

I've seen something on the BBC. Hoilett is a free agent after this season. Kean doesn't want to negotiate with him because he wants Hoilett to play to the best of his capacity.

Are you sure? Positive he signed a long-term deal last year. Sam Allardyce even flew over personally to talk to his dad in their Brampton home.

Just read that link, he's out of contract after next season.

According to the Transfermarkt website (assuming it's reliable), he's signed until the end of June 2012.

Edit: After reading the BBC article (and JPG's post properly), they do indeed mention that David is a free agent after NEXT season, so the talks would seemingly just be to extend the current contract, longer term.

Sorry,

But can a player negotiate a contract with another team 6 months before his deal ends? (I know I've seen Olic and Podolski announce that they will transfer on a free 6 months before D-Day)

Yes a player can negotiate a deal 6 months before but if he is under the age of 23 (I think its 23) then if his team offers equal or better terms and he leaves they are due compensation. This is what happened to David Edgar.

Compensation is due regardless of whether the deal is signed 6 months prior to the deal expiring.

The 6 month rule before a contract expires is only allowed if the contract is signed with a club outside of the country he plays in. An English club would have to wait until he's out of contract, but if a club in a country outside of England came around they could sign him to a contract 6 months (January 2012) before his current deal expires and then he would play out his current contract with Blackburn before joining his new foreign team in the summer of 2012. Being under 23 that foreign club would also have to pay a fee to Blackburn for Junior.

Many apologies if I am bringing up repeat information but there are a couple news items on this front.

First, an American journalist actually approached Hoilett Sr. to check out the USA rumors and it was confirmed that this is false;

Second, an article from a couple days ago states that Hart met with Hoilett in person in England over the last week.

"ESPN, which broadcast Saturday's match in Britain reported that on Friday, Hoilett met Stephen Hart, the Canadian coach, to discuss playing for the team."

Full article;

So one less suitor and Hart is doing his all. Can't ask for much more than that!

That is amazing. In the past players have chosen to play for other countries because they felt neglected by the CSA or because they didn't feel Canadian, with Hoillet I don't think either applies. If he decides to play for another country I'll be disappointed but I'll find comfort in the fact that we did everything we could.
