In what can only be seen as a good sign, PSV has all players available (no injuries or suspensions) and Atiba has been selected to the starting XI. He'll play in Afellay's usual right-side spot in midfield, while Afellay will be the right-most of 3 forwards.

He's clearly the best forward in Turkey. He may not have the most goals, but nobody can claim to be that important to his club's fortunes and do it with basically a less than ideal squad around him.

Come on now... he's definitely up there but definitely not "clearly" the best forward, hes only been playing the position a while now remember and he plays in a league with forwards like Guiza, Baros, Almeida, Bobo, Zalayeta, Vittek and other world class strikers.

World class goal! I was a bit scared though his teammate was going to kiss him after the goal! :)

Looks like he's having a blast at Manisaspor, fans love him, he gets quality minutes, is a key player playing key minutes and scoring in an attacking role. Playing for a bigger club in Turkey would be nice and all but I hope he stays at Manisaspor for a bit. If it ain't broke don't fix it and Simpson's performances have been anything but that. From a Voyageur's perspective there is no point in having Josh move elsewhere right now, far too often we see Canucks go to a new club and just rot on the bench. Im not saying it would happen with Josh but at Manisaspor he has virtually no chance of losing his starting spot atm.

Josh is not even a "forward". His position is still left mid. This coach doesn't mind if he roams ... so Josh is roaming.

I agree with this, moving up the pecking order club wise many times comes with increased competition for places and diminished roles. Playing as the star comes with more pressure and responsibility and assured minutes. Moving is a risk, and he has made such great strides I think staying where he is, is best. Shoulder the burden and prove himself a bit more so when and if he does move he will have more pedigree to command more minutes and responsibility.

Also if he's playing a key role week in and week out then when it comes time for international matches Josh is ready to play that role for us. The problem is not many of our players get to play that role, with Josh, Atiba, Kluko we have 3 players playing and starting regularly at a good level and it isn't a coincidence that over the past 2 years those 3 have been our best players abroad and for the nats.

Germany

Hertha 2 - 0 Aue, Rob Friend was stuck to the bench in this one.

You know, people will appreciate if sometimes you elaborate a little bit more. I think is going to be hard for Friend to get back at the starting XI, the 18-years old Lasogga is doing good and scored a 3rd goal since Friend lost his place in the starting XI. Also, Hertha played today with 2 strikers and still Friend wasn't considered by the coach.

^ Fair enough. I haven't been following the Friend and Hertha situation very closely of late, so I just report what I know.

FA Trophy

Eastbourne 3 - 1 Boreham Wood (Godfrey)

Ebbsfleet 3 - 1 Hayes & Yeading (Appiah)

Elliot Godfrey played 90 minutes in midfield for Boreham Wood registering a shot on target in their loss to Eastbourne.

http://www.webteams.co.uk/MatchReport.aspx?team=borehamwoodfc&mid=match64.xml

Phil Appiah was a 66' minute substitution providing the "steel" for Hayes & Yeading :

" Phil Appiah was thrown into the fray on 66 minutes in place of Ahmed Deen to add some steel to the midfield and two minutes later he was certain he had won a penalty when racing onto a throughball, getting to it before Edwards' dive, and appearing to be caught by the keeper only for a corner to be awarded....

Two further chances came United's way in the dying moments. Appiah saw a shot well saved by Edwards and a minute later Ferrell had the ball in the net but was adjudged to have fouled the Fleet keeper in doing so. "

You know, a simple, "thanks for volunteering to update this thread week after week with even the most obscure Canadians playing abroad," would have sufficed. What exactly do you contribute of general use to the forum, out of curiosity? Everybody's a critic.

For the record, and as I'm sure you know, Ed elaborates in much greater detail about the Canucks playing in Germany in his thread over there.

When I can, I try to do my thing. I don't need to tell you in what way I contribute to the forums, if you can't see it, fine by me. I know it's not much but I do what I can. BTW, what do you contribute to the forum as well? Evrybody's a critic.

tarnado was the only one to post an update on the Hertha game by the time I replied to his post. Anyway, I can understand it's hard to get information of canucks playing, let's say, in Lithuania. But Friend is one of our top players and Hart seems to want to make of him a key player in his 4-5-1 formation and it's quite easy to find B2 information.

In other words, how can we, voyageurs fans, know the best choices for our NMT if week after week we have reports like [player's name] off the bench at 75 minutes?
