I also have to remove sponsor off of that ad block. We can't be a sponsored group or appear that way.

Well, right now it looks like the Voyageurs are a subsite of Canadian Soccer News, a subsidiary of TheScore.com so I'm not sure it's working.

That said, I like the sidebar with the news items.

Really? Aside from the similarities in design and the shared ads (which should pay for the V's server rather than forcing socceronly to pay out of pocket as he's been doing), I don't see that at all.

In fact, I think he did a good job of separating the two sites enough to show them both as stand-alone entities with a common passion (Canadian soccer). I know I may seem biased as a writer at CSN, but I've been a V for far longer and I think the new layout (with improved, independant V's homepage) looks great, and is quite clear about which corner of the internet you are on.

I am having an issue. Every time I go to a post, I see the top ad only, have to refresh the page to see the actual post. I will clear my cache and see if it persists.

Well, ads are ok, by sponsor I mean an Umbro, beer company or something like that. That could be a real problem with FIFA events.

I presume that Score bar at the top is a paid ad with money going to the Vees or is Score providing the server to host the forum?

No, it's ad money. Everything is hosted on our own server.

It remains to be seen if a forum even fits into their ad model. It is a different kind of traffic.

Well, it doesn't look like an ad. The bar at the top makes it look like this site is a part of the "The Score.com SPORTS FEDERATION". The pull down menu at the top right lists Canadian Soccer News but not the Vees. When you go the CSN site the Vees site is a tab thus indicating this forum is a sibsite of the CSN.

I now this may sound odd but the ad for Score.Com should be bigger and clearly different rather than a small header bar. I see no reason not to accept ads but they should be distinct, not merged into the style sheet for the site.

Why did we had to change things. It was fine. "if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it"

The assumption you are making is that it wasn't broken. Are you willing to pay for our server and add significant funds for the next Voyageurs venture?

I'm actually impressed that Socceronly has been able to disassociate the board from CSN as much as he has.

All of it is The Score.

The bar at the top and the two ad units in the site. It is their code/design I can't change it.

To participate in the network those are the three ad units they require.

I will see if we can get CSN and V's in drop down.

It's a good question.

I don't think things have changed significantly, but our exposure has. If the numbers keep up, we will be registering people for the forum at 4 times the previous rate, and we are only scratching the surface.

What happens when( I almost typed if) Canada does well?

Right now we are not prepared, and we need to be. That is the number one reason I can give why things need to change. Not because they were broken, but that we have to be prepared when interest goes up by about 100 times.

That would be a mistake. Anything in the drop-down is, by implication under the control of theScore.Com.

At this point the best plan would be to remove V's as a tab from the CSN site to remove the impression that the V's are a subforum and vice versa. CSN and V's could still have reciprocal ads and a way to make the top bar more obviously an ad would be to add a very small strip of white with the word "Advertisement" in 6 or 8 point text underneath.

Why is it not a good thing to be a part of the Score network? That's a serious question, not rhetorical.

We have a little niche here. It's great. I've met a number of the people in this group and they are all lovely people. This group is great as it is. However, if our mandate is to have a significant impact on filling seats for Canada games, I'm not sure how keeping our little group a secret will do that. Being part of a large network will only grow the group and if this growth is managed properly, this growth will be a good thing.

It all depends on what people see as the future of the Voyageurs. Are we trying to raise awareness of Canadian players and the national team in general or are we happy with keeping the status quo? At some point, if we want to grow the group and become something more than a band of a couple dozen goofballs who show up at games and cheer, then we have to do something. Of course, that something requires a little give and take.

Don't get me wrong, I love the goofball nature of the group as it is. But as things stand now, we don't have enough impact ticket-wise when it comes to putting butts in the seats. That isn't meant to belittle the work that Vees have done in the past, like VPjr or Grizzly or anyone, but more that efforts like those shouldn't be necessary with a group of significant size. We should have a group that will buy 200 tickets to a game within a couple days and not weeks like it's been in the past.

Just a tuesday afternoon thought.

It seems clear to me that the list is one of independant sites the score has chosen to build into a network of sports related sites, mostly Canadian.

Adding The Voyageurs to the drop down tab would increase our independance, not dimish it.

These are two separate sites that connect to each other by links in the Nav Bar.

I can't alter or highlight that in anyway, and couldn't for the Google adwords that proceeded these ads either.

EDIT: Can't alter highlight the ads

The top bar isn't so much an ad as it is the connection to the network of sites we are part of.

Why is it not a good thing to be a part of the Score network?

Because we are not owned by a corporation.

We are an independent supporters group not a bunch of corporate toadies.

BTW when I click on the "Federation" link I just get the main Score.com page. Not a page outlining what the "federation" is. Not a home page that features news and articles from federation member pages just the main corporate page.

If this was a real network or federation it would have some identity and governance that was at least making a pretense of being semi-independent.

Accept advertising by all means but we are not going to become corporate lickspittles for the CSA or any private company if I have anything to say about it.
