"The [Ohio St.] Buckeyes struck early on an unassisted goal by Tiffany Cameron less than two minutes in. The sophomore midfielder dribbled in from the right wing past a Virginia defender and beat goalkeeper Chantel Jones near post for her first goal of the season... Ohio State added to its lead in the 26th minute when Danica Wu scored her second goal of the season. After a corner kick by Courtney Jenkins, Lauren Steuer controlled the loose ball in the box and flicked it on to Wu who finished from inside the six-yard box to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead....It was almost 3-0 minutes later when the Buckeyes hit Virginia on a counter-attack but the header from Lauren Granberg off a perfect cross from Steuer sailed just high."

Danica Wu goes 90, Lauren Granberg 74, and Tiffany Cameron 71, but Ohio State goes down 0-1 to the Fighting Irish after a late goal in the 82nd minute. Just Leon in the final who was up to 38 minutes against the three Canadian Buckeyes. They meet Stanford who is unbeaten in 2010 and has not given up a goal in their last three games and has 15 in the tournament.

All the prep and PR this week for the College Cup final between Stanford and Notre Dame focused on the American big name and marquis players but the scoresheet was a different story. Unheralded freshman Adriana Leon scores her fourth of the year with a left-footed strike just under the bar in the top-left-corner in the 62nd minute to give her Fighting Irish an upset 1-0 win over the undefeated #1 ranked Stanford Cardinals. Both teams ran with 9 players for 90 minutes and in the case of Notre Dame, the one player they were alternating made all the difference in the world.

Leon's goal on the hour was the first time since September 10th Stanford was behind in a game, and you can taste the fear they must have felt from a thousand miles away. It's Stanford's second straight loss in the finals.

Huge congratulations to Adriana for stepping up big, carrying the flag and putting red icing on a hugely successful year in Canadian women's soccer.
