AvroArrow
Is it possible that there are some agreements between teams that if you select this player, we'll make a trade with you for something else later? That could explain why Portland is drafting players who have no intention of staying in MLS. Something similar (but not quite) to when TFC drafted Kreis. TheKottonmouthed1555362307
Well with the whole Canadian content thing in the air Cannon counts as a canadian Compelely forgot about that. Thanks for clearing it up.

Free kick
Time will tell. Afterall dont be surprised if only 2-3 of these players are still with the Whitecaps and Timbers for the openning game. What does standout to me is the fact that ( In Bornstein, Finlay, McCarty and Wallace) Portland certainly got the higher profile players. Each of these are capped at either their MNT or the U20 level. As far as Nkufu, maybe there is a side deal in place between Sea nd Van. If he wants to plays in BC, then you can bet it will happen

Havoc88
Wow jonathan bornstein to Portland, surely a wasted pick as he has agreed a move to Tigres? From what it sounded like on the MLS radio-cast was that because both him and Findlay are USMNT members, if their time abroad doesn't work out, Portland won't use an allocation spot signing them. So (anyone correct me if this is off) basically they could both play next season somewhere else, bomb, and Portland could sign them without any red tape. Free kick
Scoring Nyassi and Harris is the Caps major grabs. Whitecaps seemed to have favoured players with pace. In Nyassi, OBW and Harris(i believe) are all very fast. OBW is actually not quick and people mistaken him for being slow but thats not the case. He can chase down ball but has had problem creating chances for himself.
youllneverwalkalone
I was unhappy with the OBW pick, but after Buddle & Cunningham, I guess it could pay off to take a TFC striker.
tmcmurph
But untrue. Yes it is. The clubs can renegotiate a player's salary • Right to Negotiate: Vancouver and Portland will have the right to renegotiate a drafted player’s salary (either up or down) without having to place such player on waivers or giving his previous Club a right of first refusal. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/official-mls-expansion-draft-rules
bettermirror
Nyassi and Harris for sure are excellent pick-ups. No brainers, really. OBW is a huge shock, and I really can't believe it. Expect him to be more a part of the PDL team than the MLS one - if at all. A mystery why no Blaise though....we can only speculate, I suppose. Maybe RedNation can get an interview with someone "in the know." Anyway, a decent draft, all things considered. Is John thorrington not a quality squad player? I like that pick-up. Same with Joe Cannon. A nice pick-up. Alan Gordon? Any info? Been with Galaxy, but...? Can't comment on any of the others - haven't watched enough MLS to know. Arturo Alvarez can be the steal of the draft for Portland though.

That doesn't mean the player has to accept the club's terms. If a player is happy with his contract (and OBW should be), then he is under no requirement to renegotiate it. What would be the point of drafting cheap, servicable players (as both sides have done) if they could simply renegotiate the contracts of more expensive (and arguably better) players that are available in the draft? In my time paying attention to these things, I've never seen a player willfully renegotiate his contract to lesser money with an expansion side. Then he will probably get cut and won't be a cap problem for the Caps. He was the one real surprise to me. Personally I would have taken Barrett ahead of OBW. Like others have said only a handful will still be with the team next year and I don't think OBW will be one of them. With Salgado coming in next draft the competition for forward will be real tough. So if a player refuses to renegotiate and gets cut MLS is on the hook for the salary unless it isn't guaranteed. Does anyone know if OBW's contract is guaranteed? 105k is too much for what he has done. Like I said I'd have paid extra and taken Barrett if they were going to keep him. TheKottonmouthed1555362307
Yeah, the names the Timbers took, could pay divedends in years to come. Dax is a star in the makings, while if Findley and Bornstein don't succeed aboard, they will be huge additions to there club whenever that may be, I heard there's no lottery for them and there rights are held indefinitely. After letting the Caps 10 sit in for bit in to the mind, liking them more and more. Was the staff being systematic again and going after positional and team needs, rather than best available player. I think we could see around 5+ of these players on the final roster come opening day. To be honest I sorta think all 10 could be there barring they can get a worth while deal negotiated or they were picked up to use as trade bait, but I think if we kept them all that they all potential could be useful pieces through the opening season. If anything will give us some control's to compare where some of our players are at camp beside some of these MLS regulars.
