The big day for Canada and Mexico. It should be interesting to see the mood with both teams having achieved their goals and accomplished what they came for. The Mexicans will have much less of a problem getting up for things with their big home crowd like ours in Edmonton in 2002, hopefully someone can play Lindsay Tarpley and send them all home silver.

Canada: 34 million

Mexico: 107 million

USA: 310 million

The last four CONCACAF World Cup qualifying finals:

1998 - Canada 1, Mexico 0 at Etobicoke, Canada

2002 - USA 2, Canada 1 (aet) at Pasadena, California, USA

2006 - USA 2, Canada 1 (aet) at Carson, California, USA

2010 - Canada v Mexico

Not bad for a scrappy little snow-buried country north of the 49th parallel.

CONCACAF Final Preview

The winner of this game will become the champion of CONCACAF. Canada lifted the trophy in 1998, defeating Mexico 1-0 in the final. Mexico has never won the title.

Canada is 5-0-0 against Mexico in the finals of a CONCACAF women's championship/World Cup qualifying competition (16 goals for, 3 goals against). In four World Cup qualifying games between them, Canada is 4-0-0 (12 goals for, 0 goals against).

Canada has not conceded a goal in four CONCACAF Women's World Cup qualifying games in Cancun.

Christine Sinclair (5) and Jonelle Filigno (4) have combined to score nine of the Maple Leafs 16 goals in the competition.

The Tricolor is unbeaten in 9 of its last ten games at home in World Cup qualifying matches (including FIFA Playoffs).

Mexico's Maribel Dominguez is tied with the USA's Abby Wambach as the Finals' leading scorer with six goals.

Mexico's seven-game losing streak against North American opposition in World Cup qualifying only came to an end in the 2-1 semifinal win against the USA (2 goals for, 36 goals against).

When we talked about the biggest calls that have screwed Canada in the past people rarely bring up the 06 Women's Gold Cup, but that 119th minute penalty was a disgrace. Cost the women a chance at their only real trophy under Pellarud. Would be nice to put that behind us tonight. Allez les Rouges!

Here's a match preview http://www.allwhitekit.com/?p=4312

Keys to winning the game

Mexico:

1) Take advantage of early scoring opportunities. Canada has a tendency of starting each match with a few long balls to spark a quick attack and then slowly settle into a somewhat more possession oriented game. The opening minutes of the match may be an easy time for Mexico to pounce on loose balls and hold on to possession. Also, Canada is yet to concede a goal this tournament, so playing from a disadvantage may just be the mental tactic to nerve the Canadians....

Canada:

1) Score early and often. Putting on the pressure right from the get-go will be their best/easiest opportunity. Against the US, Mexico barged out of the gate to score in the 3′, which was a total mind f—. By the second half, Mexico bunkered and the US wasn’t able to get through a very populated defence. Mexico will also likely become defensively oriented late in the final, so Canada needs to put away goals before that happens....

GO. I am craving a cup tonight.

Considering the only previous time Canada won the CONCACAF championship the Americans weren't in the tournament would tonight be the biggest achievement in Canadian Womens Soccer history if they won?

Still probably second to the run at the 2003 World Cup, but its pretty close...

I am sure we will be there to win. Both teams are in and every player wants to make a case for themselves.

But this is CONCACRAP, Mexico at home with a unique opportunity after a historic victory.

Now I know what it's like to watch a hockey game just to see the fight.

^ Only on the Voyageurs could you find conspiracy theories about a women's continental championship before the game has started :)

For the record... also a little worried about CONCACAF interference

Oh, I wasn't trying to imply a conspiracy. We already KNOW that! ;)

I didn't see the US vs Mexico game but I heard people comment there was some nasty stuff going on in that game.
