Still nothing to be concerned about?

I would in fact say that he is probably one of our ten best players regardless of position (still slightly behind Klukowski, incidentally) and it troubles me to see him without a regular place.

Not a chance IMO that De Jong is one of our 10 best players. Top 20 maybe.

I don't want to derail the thread but don't appreciate insinuations that I may have temporarily lost my mind and feel the need to defend myself a bit

Well, it's extremely subjective...but based on recent nat appearances and a sprinkling of general club form he's way up there for me (OK I did a list and he's 11th on my team) - perhaps he's undervalued by others, as he seems to be with his club:

Hutch, Simpson, Jackson, Jakovic, Klukowski, DDR, McKenna, Hirchfeld, Friend, DeJong

JPG was disagreeing with you. I don't think there were any insinuations there.

I think we get a little knee-jerk sometimes when certain players aren't playing. It could be for a number of reasons. If they're as good as we think they are then they'll work themselves back into the squad.

A youngster stepped in for Rob on the opening day after he came out in 15 minutes or so and also had a two goal performance, so there's no guarantee that he will usurp Rob as numero uno. Friend was Berlin's costliest signing in the off-season but he is in a massvie slump.

An excerpt from an article published earlier this week in B-Z Berlin, previewing the game today. Sorry for the lateness, I've been too busy lately.

Rob Friend's Goalless Steak Even Worse

Rob Friend's Goalless Streak hits 462 minutes. Now he's on the bench.

What is Happening with Hertha's Giant Striker Rob Friend?

The 1.95 meter giant last scored Sept 24 in a 1-0 win over Cottbus -- since then the Canadian has had a big dry spell; 462 minutes without a goal! And Friend's appearance against Paderborn didn't offer any hope that this streak is going to be broken soon.

The striker (4 goals on the season) "stumbled" to his eventual substitution in the 65th minute. He landed his first and only shot of the game when, furious at his poor performance, he booted a cooler into the air.

Offered his trainer, Markus Babbel, "Rob is important for us, even when he isn't scoring."

Nevertheless, there is a good chance Rob will not be in the starting lineup for the first time this season against Bochum this Monday

And on a happier note. Some kids baked Rob a KANADA CAKE and presented it to him a while back:
