Sam
A bit random but I'm just starting to realize how crazy this 2011 is going to be for Canadian soccer in general. We've got the U-17 and U-20 CONCACAF championships in the spring and potentially the World Cup for these age groups later on in the year. It looks like our Women's national team will be heading to the World Cup next summer barring a loss to Costa Rica this Friday. Then of course our Men's team has their busiest year in a very long time with a Gold Cup in the summer and then World Cup Qualifying probably starting in the fall. 2010 was a bit of a slow year for Canadian soccer, but by the end of next year we should have a very good idea of where this program is at. I mean the expectations for all these teams are pretty high at the moment...
Tuscan
Blast! Why couldn't one of us just happen to own an airline and provide free airfare to Voyageurs?? Is that really a lot to ask?? Well I guess beggars can't be choosers, might only be able to fly out for the Gold Cup and *possibly* the Women's World Cup barring how much time I can get off of work. Here's to hoping 2011 is full of nothing but victory for all of our guys and gals wearing our Red and White!
StartingEleven
Hey, don't forget the next MLS season and the coming take over of the league by the elite Canadian Squads!!! Nutrilite Champs and all that!! I do realize that the Montreal v Toronto derby will be much more interesting when Montreal get in MLS next season, but some of us over here on the west coast can't wait for the first home game against TFC. F_c_ing can't wait!!!
Free kick
The Concacaf U20's (in April) and the U20 WC (in Colombia in August) is something to really look forward to. provided that the Canadians advance of course. It will be the first true measuring stick of progress from all the changes that have occurred in the past 3-4 years (ie.: Domestic Professional academies) in Canada. Judging from the squad, it will be a familiar one to all of us and it looks like a team with players that will have some pro experience and the coaches (for the first time ever) will have a good read on the talent. Shall I go on a limb? If you look at that squad that played at the U20 tourney in Spain( link below is for game versus Santos of Brazil) , it looks pretty darn good on paper. From what we have seen of some of the players from the current crop, its almost night and day from what i recall of that 2005 squad that went to to the U20 WC in Holland. http://www.canadasoccer.com/tourney/FIFA_U20WC/game_profile.asp?gameId=1862&tab=review

Looking at 2009 that team already has many players who have "made it" so to speak. Teal Bunbury, Marcus Haber, Nana Attakora, Phillipe Davies, Ethan Gage, Adam Straith. Then you have guys like Kyle Porter, Edwini Bonsu, Lassonde, Eddy Sidra, Paris Nakajima and the keepers who could all be regular pros one day. Attakora and Straith at centre back and we had some good strikers.. too bad we couldn't see that squad more
