mtlfan
Here are the handicaps as per bet 365 Trinidad & Tobago Women (+4) 1.95 Tie - (Canada Women -4) 5.00 Canada Women (-4) 2.50 I figure the girls will take no prisoners so I am going to Canada to cover. I expect Sinclair to dominate.
Vic
Got stuck in a work meeting and missed the first 35 minutes but this game is a joke! I've seen us score two goals in 10 minutes and both were called back on wrong offside calls, and T&T were given a free kick on the edge of the box for a defensive challenge that you could see was all ball from space. Anyone see the first 35? I can't see how they could be even remotely like the last 10. The Trinis don't look very good at all. What's the reason it's still goal-less? mtlfan
Yes. I think we look sloppy and of course CONCACRAP offsides should be 2-0. I don't like what I have seen from Belanger.

Yes, I saw the whole ball of wax. In the first 15-20 minutes we were having problems with the speed of Trinidad. We looked heavy, slow and nervous. Hope the 2nd half is better as we get the other AR. Vic
Thanks guys. Have some more life stuff so am going to have to wait for the replay. Hopefully we see some of the younger more dynamic players into the attack. Good call on the AR. And Kari Seitz looks like someone let her know the deal at the break. Vic
Actually caught most of the second half. Hopefully we can turn it around and wipe that off us. Making good use of our best players would be a good start. But something the players themselves should think about. Throw out the lineup, the coaching and positioning. We just did a disservice to the craft of women's soccer. On a simple individual and technical level - that a team as good as we are can play with that many poor decisions and execution is almost shameful. Settle the ball in midfield. Pass the ball on the ground, not bouncing. Think quicker and act with more intent and conviction. Demand more of yourself as players.

I caught most of the first half before I had to go out, some observations: the team looked somewhat nervous in possesion at times, I think T&T had them a little intimidated with some harsh fouls! You're right Vic, poor decision making cost them a much easier victory! It's interesting that in a recorded interview with the coach she said she wants to see less passing and more dribbling with the ball, maybe something was lost in her lack of English! BTW, the second offside goal was never offside from the replays I saw!
Soccer 19
Nice Goal Tancredi Canada 1 T&T 0 Fulltime Yes Tancerdis goal was nice , a very nice build up from back to front on that goal. Vic you mentioned no midfield well at least Canada had one, if Trinidad had any support for their speedy strikers the result might have been allot different. TnT's back end more than held it's own and I think the world expected Canada to do what Mexico did to Guyana tonight. It was very humid at the stadium this evening. So much so that TnT many of its players wore there longed sleeved 2nd jerseys in the 2nd half due to their 1st jersey being completed drenched. The new pitch looked great however it was very hard underneath as they removed all the Carribean grass for Fifa approved sod. Was a well mannered crowd however not a big crowd however onve Mexico and Guyana begin the stdium was backed all around and what a great atmosphere to watch and enjoy a match.

Vic
Perhaps 19. The T&T game plan was numbers deep and counter and individual effort, and their Swedish attacker has some flair, but I think had they released a midfield they would have been dangerously exposed at the back. It will be interesting to see how they can do against a team like Guyana when they don't play a similar guard the fort system. Can they play an attacking brand as well? The Mexicans went +5 against Guyana and probably feel good but looking at the highlights I honestly think we can put 8-10 past them if we turn it on full. The bad news is Mexico play after us and will know exactly how many they have to score to get the tactically valuable tie-breaking goal differential for our game against them. So we'll have to put in a super 90 Sunday and keep the pedal on the metal full out and pray T&T don't lay down. I only caught the last hour but I thought Nault was quite good and deserved a mention. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyAGlZiw5os
Guest Ed
I saw the game finally and if T&T had taken 3 points, we'd definitely need a new run of the 'We Got Robbed At The Gold Cup' T-shirts featuring Jack Warner. Canada had two very nice goals called back in the 1st half, Matheson took an absolute BS yellow and Foligno had her head rearranged by a very late shoulder/elbow with no action at all. I thought Canada controlled the game and were full credit for the win. Never really saw that much danger from T&T although Chapman was really off her game defensively. The other backs were more in control. Particularly impressed with Wilkinson who I thought wasn't up to scratch in previous outings but she did well today along with Nault and Zurrer. Tancredi up front was very good. Sinclair had a good header in the 1st half, would have scored if it was anywhere but right at the goalkeeper. I wish we had someone on the men's team with her skill and mind in the attacking third, world class. Liked the subs a lot. Overall they got what they needed despite being jobbed in the 1st half and dealing with the heat and pressure.

tmcmurph
http://www.canadasoccer.com/news/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=4532 1-0 for the Canuck ladies. Not the result I was expecting (3-0, 3-1) but 3 points is 3 points. Looking forward to seeing the game and see how the "Italian job" is working out. From the writeup it seems we dominated possession but had trouble finishing.
Vic
Thanks for the link, that was terrific. CBC is such a gift. I enjoyed the commentary from all three. Nigel and Jason as usual, and Clare Rustad was very natural and relaxed, kind of like an older graduated Emma Stone. It would have been entertaining and interesting if they threw the "who disappointed you" comment at her instead of Jason, but I'm glad they didn't put her on the spot yet. I think de Vos had a very good point about not being able to quickly change the point of the attack. T&T defend in numbers on the ball, and often extreme numbers, and being able to move the ball to the other side of the field quickly would be very effective. Great analysis. hc1
I enjoyed the game. I normally tend to give the refs a lot of slack for poor calls (its a tough job), but the offside call on Tancredi's first non-goal was simply horrible and in general, I thought the reffing was poor. I thought the girls were a little shaky the first 15 minutes or so, but then settled down. They didn't play with the control I saw in the recent China game, but T&T are a much different opponent and we eventually got into a rhythm. Things just didn't seem to go our way - with a little luck we could have certainly had 2 or 3 more goals. I am hard pressed to recall a shot that really tested Leblanc, but a 1 goal lead is always so scary... I love Sinclair and Tancredi up front. The team worked the ball around nicely. Overall, a good effort, and I look forward to them building on it. Go Canada!
terpfan68
I was not a big fan of EP, BUT I do know that we would have had about 50 posts criticizing him for poor coaching (or preperation) after beating a T & T team by a score of 1 = 0. Why the double standard? Three points may be three points but will Canada be able to beat Mexico with that effort. Blaming it on poor officiating might work once, but will it be a good enough excuse the next time. In the match with Mexico I would expect that the home team might get most (read all) of the close calls.

No, there was a yellow card given for the late, intentional elbow to Foligno's head - at least by CBC . None listed in the game records though. I think it was Forbes who hit her, that would have been her second yellow? Game sheet lists a yellow at 14' but I don't recall that one. There was also the blatant non-call on Kyle in the box (shoved from behind)... That was between the two phantom offsides.

Why the double standard? Like everything else in life, it's all in the timing. I don't know about anyone else, but from my point of view there's a bigger picture than a single game, especially in a qualification tournament where you're judged on the net result as opposed to an early group game. And in terms of Pellerud, most people became vocal when the time was right, after he lost the plot and we stopped moving forward.

There was a time when a 1-0 win over T&T would have been completely unacceptable - a sure sign that the sky was falling. In any case, T&T (and Pellerud) must be at least somewhat pleased with the result. As far as Mexico is concerned it's hard to say how tough they will be (I personally haven't seen them play a quality side in a long time). But Maribel Dominguez looks to be in fine form. That, and homer officiating could spell big trouble for Canada.
Vic
Don't let the result fool you. The Mexicans are weak and poorly prepared. The Guyanans are mostly teenagers, half the starters were 17 or younger, one of whom just turned 16. And from what I've seen so far, the officials aren't homers, they're just bad. We could just as easily get all the calls.
