So do you go out with a bang or a whimper?

Here's hoping for a bang. Cheers.

Okay that is a whimper of a start. WTF? Who is your RB tonight. F@#$ck. Keeper has a right to scream at that one.

Okay that was nice :) back in the game. Keep Santos for next year!

Well in a battle of the basement dwellers TFC refuses to quit. Damned good to see. Bad handball by JDG. He seems to duck and turn every time a shot is threatened? What is with that? Like he's afraid of being hit with the ball? Anyway 2-2 so far and a sloppy but entertaining game.

And if that ain't the prettiest goal I've seen TFC do all year. Lindsay, Petersen, Dero. Tic Tac Toe. Damn good play by the kid to set it up.

BANG :)

The Past & The Future - DC United VBlog

http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2010/10/the-past-the-future-dc-united-vblog/

In this final video blog for the 2010 Toronto FC season I briefly cover off the game in DC that saw TFC come from behind to earn the three points. I ponder DeRo and what to do with a 17 goal scorer who wants more $$$’s, I speak to the promise of Nicholas Lindsay, the enigma that is Julian de Guzman, and who needs to get their arses outta BMO Field.

^He should be very pleased with his recent performances/debut. Definitely was more aware/improved with his defensive responsibilities in the second half (was it Lindsay who failed to track the DC United flank player who crossed on the first minute goal?) but like what he showed in the offensive side of the game. He's clearly got a burst of pace in him and if managed correctly he may develop into that winger the team has so badly needed.

In a related note on the opposite side of the coin, I see Gala was in for the final 5 minutes of the match, the first time he has seen the field in a long, long time. I'm going to take a guess that those minutes will be his last in a TFC shirt?

JDG ... rather not comment on that performance. As for the Canadian on the other team, Jakovic's play wasn't that impressive IMO: he struggled against Santos, but the Brazilian has shown that when he gets facing his opponent 1 v 1 he has deceptive quickness for a bigger man and the quality ball skills to make something out of nothing.

And speaking of Santos, his is the only international spot that should be protected in the expansion draft. His injury in the MLS match following the Montagua road draw had a big impact on the team during an important stretch, CCL and league.

I remember one on a Chad Barrett goal I think against Seattle and I guess one yesterday. That's a solid pro debut for him.

From the 3rd goal he didn't have an assist buy yes, he made the pass to Peterson who then assisted DeRo's goal. Anyway, he looks solid, I agree. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss any of his other assists but to my count, he has one assist only.

EDIT: I'll check Barrett goal against Seattle.

Edit II: You are right loyola, 1 assist on the Barrett goal against Seattle and another assist on the Peterson goal against Columbus, but I don't know about the third assist.

IMHO,

Keep - Frei, Conway, Kosic, Attakora, Harden, Gargan, Cann, DeRosario, Sanyang, DeGuzman (will claim the 5th on yesterdays shocking performance like BearcatSA), Maicon Santos, Barrett, Lindsey, Henry

Undecided - Gomez, LaBrocca, Peterson

Gone - Garcia, Hrscanovics, Usanov, Gala (unfortunately), Saric, Nane, Ibrahim, White, Mista

I though it was MLS scoring policy to award two assists when there are two clear passes that set up the goal - it certainly has been that way in the past - so I'm assuming he would be awarded one for the winning goal last night. Of course MLS official scorers sometimes screw up - I can recall last year a second assist was awarded to Marvell Wynne even though it was Ali Gerba that made the pass.

Whatever the official statistics say, its pretty clear that he's helped to set up 3 goals in 4 games, the only one he didn't was the Chivas game.

Agreed with this only if Frei also counts as an American - otherwise I'd include him as protected foreigner.

Assuming there are 2 assists per goal, yes, he has 3 assists, the other 2 are one on the Barrett goal against Seattle (Oct 2) and another assist on the Peterson goal against Columbus (Oct 16).

Yes, that secondary assist would have been awarded to Lindsey, especially after the MLS website made such a big deal out of his pass to Peterson.

Got to remember that MLS gives assists to 2 players (I think) unlike the rest of creation. But yes Lindsay played an excellent game. Good to see some talent coming through the TFC Academy! Here's hoping for more to follow. As to the game well Dero does what Dero does, FINISH. Like I said in the first comment that 3rd goal was a pretty play all around. Nothing lucky about it, just players moving themselves and the ball to open areas and of course the calm finish expected of a true striker.

Frei definitely has domestic status because there would be no mention of whether he would play for Switzerland or the USA otherwise.

Definitely Keep: Frei, Attakora, Cann, Henry, LaBrocca, Lindsay, Santos

Probably keep as inexpensive depth to the roster: Harden, Gargan, Kocic

Probably keep if injury issues fully resolved: Sanyang

Only keep if still has GA status: Ibrahim

Want rid of eventually so try to trade if can get something good back and/or to dump salary when/if a suitable replacement is lined up but would prefer not to lose for nothing on expansion draft: DeRosario, Barrett, Peterson

Might keep but definitely no need to lose any sleep over on during the expansion draft: Conway, Nane, White, Gomez

Get rid of ASAP: Garcia, Usanov, Hscanovics, JdG, Mista, Gala, Saric

Yea I double dog dare you to leave him unprotected on draft day! Gone first pick if he is. Guaranteed!

For sure, 15 goals in 27 games as an attacking midfielder... he just had a career year and is easily one of the best players in the league and could walk onto any team in this league. His numbers since he's joined Toronto have been ridiculous and hes been CLUTCH for TFC in all competitions.

DeRo is sometimes referred to as MeRo on the RPB board these days and it kind of sums up what the problem is. That plus the fact he'll be 33 season and is highly likely to lose a step means he is a prime candidate to be replaced by a DP signing with a more professional attitude. Won't be easy which is why I wrote (see below) that he shouldn't be left unprotected on the expansion draft. As for JdG I suspect he's going nowhere given the money he's on but if there is any kind of contract clause available to get rid of him it should be exercised because having somebody making that much money, who clearly doesn't merit it based on his current level of performance, can't be doing much for team chemistry. For TFC to turn things around quickly they need to make much better use of the DP roster spots than having JdG and Mista. Hopefully the renewal rate was high enough that the cash is still there to be able to do it, because odds on any shortfall will be coming out of 2011 operational expenses rather than MLSE's profit margin.
