Macksam
Richard Grootscholten claims it'll cost $33 million. This is what TFC should've been doing. I guess that's the difference between having Anselmi run your team and Bobby L.
RS
This is what TFC should've been doing. I guess that's the difference between having Anselmi run your team and Bobby L. It's exactly what TFC is doing. Kudos to the Caps for finalizing plans for their training centre. TFC should have theirs in place by the end of next year, and hopefully Montreal will follow suit when they join MLS.
Slamo
Marc Weber breaks the rumour that the Whitecaps training facility will be at Burnaby Lake Makes sense since the provincial youth teams are loosely based there and there is already a tonne of infrastructure in place. Plus it's much easier to get to than SFU for PDL games - assuming we'll still have them.
SthMelbRed
2 major reasons why Burnaby Lake makes perfect sense for the location of the training facility (expanding on Slamo's post): -It is very centrally located (only fifteen minutes drive to DT during off-peak; five to ten minutes from SFU, where the club currently trains; a five-minute drive or fifteen minute jog from Burnaby Central, where the residency kids go to school). I'm sure it wouldn't go down well when the 'Caps signed a big-name DP, selling them on the merits of living in Vancouver, then telling them that they have to drive an hour or more in each direction from their DT apartment to the training facility in Cloverdale (another proposed location). -It's adjacent to the largest cluster of sports facilities anywhere in the Lower Mainland. Burnaby Lake Sports Complex (municipal facilities) includes sixteen sports grounds (3 field hockey, three rugby, and three football - all natural grass - at Central Valley, plus a sand-based all-weather pitch, six artifical pitches at BLSCW - multi-lined for use in various different sports), two arenas, a public pool, and about a dozen tennis courts (half of them indoor). Also in the precinct is the private 8Rinks complex (where the Canucks train) and a rowing club. Burnaby Winter Club is about a kilometer away and has two more ice sheets, plus curling facilities. Roman Tulis Soccer School - one of the countries' top private academies - is located at the Scandinavian centre, which is across the road from the tennis courts. One of North America's top physiotherapy clinics is also located at Burnaby Lake. For the fitness nuts, there is a fantastic running trail around Burnaby Lake which is about 11 km around.* Going with this location would be a fantastic move by the 'Caps. Go on, Bobby. Get 'er done! *information provided for those not from the Lower Mainland who might not know the area.

DJones
Great location and definitely the most ideal... although those all-natural grass fields mentioned above can become a Canada Goose pooping ground! I heard that the city of Coquitlam was contemplating hosting the Whitecaps at Coquitlam Town Centre but apparently the Whitecaps wanted to monopolize the fields and squeeze out the local clubs. Talk did surface about building more turf fields plus an indoor centre but I guess talks broke down. Just for information sake, Roman Tulis has moved to the turf field (#5 exclusively) and no longer uses the Scandinavian Centre anymore. Will be interesting to hear what Burnaby's sports clubs will say with the Whitecaps taking all those field away. There must be more field developments for the area around the Burnaby turfs. They have the room.
SthMelbRed
^The goose poo is part of Cliff Avenue's home field advantage at Central Valley, especially when flocks of geese fly overhead during matches and drop on opposition players. Also, from the look of the point on the map link above, it looks like the 'Caps would be building an entirely new facility north and east of the current complex, somewhere off Winston, in the stretch between Dairyland and Costco. If that's the case, it won't adversely affect the current users at Burnaby Lake.
Johnnie Monster
Remember that there is $17 million in provincial funding for this project. They won't be "taking over fields" they'll be leasing land and adding new ones.
