FC Edmonton Roster 2011

Thought I'd start this, as people seem to be talking about possibilities for FCE for next year. I think that having a few players from Vancouver who are not quite ready for MLS would be great, but by the same token, I don't want to lose some of the younger local guys that we saw really shine this past year in exhibition. I'm not sure what kinds of contracts the players were working under, as I heard rumours that some were signed to longer term contracts, while others were working on month to month deals.

I would welcome some of the 'Caps young prospects going on loan to FC Edmonton on loan for next season if it appears that they are not going to be getting significant MLS minutes with the 'Caps. Playing with and against seasoned pros in games that matter would be far preferable to playing in nothing games in an MLS reserve league.

Which is certainly a good start. That way they can play some games yet still train with the first squad. Didn't ICF report that it's only going to be 10 games though?

According to Bob Lenarduzzi the 'Caps are going to concentrate solely on MLS next season. Not sure if that includes the MLS Reserve League. However, I can foresee it being cancelled again; though if they could somehow play in the USL's PDL, as well; a 10 game schedule wouldn't seem so sparse.

I think that Edmonton would definatly benefit from a few players who have done the D2 thing. I know there are some solid players (Baart for example) who Edmonton should try to get to stick around.

I'll be honest, I don't know a lot of the players who have been listed as coming from Vancouver (I mostly follow the English leagues until Edmonton got a pro team), but I think that the experience and leadership that some of those players could provide would work wonders in the locker room.

I'm interested in the MLS Reserve league... from what I've read about it on this forum, it seems like its more of a rumour than a reality for next year, though I'm sure with the new teams coming into the league, and the influx of younger players it will be a reality before too long.

Montreal will likely also release a number of players who are decent NASL players but who aren't MLS prospects. If Edmonton is willing to pay a decent wage they could probably form a decent team right from the start especially since they already seem to have a few good players.

I'd be glad to see Montreal players as well. Thinking back along some of the comments that the Fath bros have made, I know they'll want to keep some of the players from this year. They spent a lot of money bringing over a few from the Netherlands, and I'm guessing that they'll be looking to resign (if they weren't signed for a multi-year deal already) those players. From the sounds of it, the owners are pretty serious about making Edmonton a contender as quickly as possible. With the Eskimos scrapping just to make it into the playoffs, and the Oilers "rebuilding" (I'm not holding my breath), having a winning pro team in town might help get some fans in the seats.

I just wish that Edmonton had gone through some more serious compition last year so that some of the local guys had more realistic experience.

How is molesting PDL in a dark alley not serious competition?

I know a certain Edmontonian with big league experience without a club and another with less than big league experience but good experience none the less (and a very nice outing for our nats some while back). Wonder if the brass have been in touch??

I thought Nsaliwa was with Real Betis? Did they release him?

from infallible wiki:

According to the official website of Real Betis, Nsaliwa not play in the club because there was no economic agreement between both parties. After this, the player decided to sue the club. This is the translation of the official notice that the club put on its website:

"Real Betis Balompié has ruled out signing Tamandani Nsaliwa after both parties have reached an agreement on economic quantities. After several days that has been in talks with the player and his representatives, club Betis midfielder ruled out the incorporation of after failing to reach a point in common. Real Betis continue to work tirelessly to continue making the template ahead of the season that begins in less than two weeks."

So I spent some well wasted hours at work last night researching old threads, looking for any word of any players that had already been signed by FCE in hopes of narrowing down the field of potential signings. The only ones I could find were the Dutch players.

Rein Baart: Signed last year for 1.5 years (so one year left on his contract?)

Paul Matthijs Signed last year for 2 years (1 year remaining)

Sander van Gessel Signed last year for unknown contract

Basically there is a LOT of room for new signings and players coming in. I'm quite excited to see who Vancouver cuts loose, and who we can snap up.

That is true of the vast majority of the soccer world including western European countries.

Biggest payers in the world at the moment are Manchester city, who apparently have a team could not be bothered to try and beat a jorneyman wolves side (no disrespect intended to Mick McCarthy's Men).

The Theatre of Base Comedy that is Manc City has now become an Expensive Joke.

Money dosn't necessarily mean sucess.

So at our level what do we need?

I would venture that any money would be best spent on quality, experience and on players willing to nuture and intergrate with what apparently looks like a nucleus of a half decent young squad.
