TheKottonmouthed1555362307
For some time now there has been rumblings in the media about a rift between Rooney and Sir Alex, that had been shrugged off as a reality until recently, and that the move could come as early as January. If this happens and I still strongly believe it's a big if, Where does Rooney take his services? Out of England? Is an Everton return possible? Is this all nonsense and he is with Manchester for the long haul? So yeah, I was just wondering what is everyone's take on what might happen come January. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=833387&sec=england&cc=5901
CanadianSoccerFan
I suspect he'd struggle on and off the pitch if he moved abroad. The only English clubs that could afford his price tag are Chelsea and Man City. The storylines if moved across town would be golden.

Plus, I doubt Fergie would ever allow him to move to a rival team. Let's get this started now: Rooney to TFC.

amacpher
Simple solution: Get rid of Mr. Ferguson. Don't get rid of your future for a manager who is winding-down his career (he's turning 70 next year). Look how mediocre Man United is without Rooney. Even with Berbatov, Scholes and Nani playing really well (how long will that last?) the team is still not as good as when Rooney was carrying the team by himself most of last season. The same thing was said when Fergie got rid of Whiteside, McGrath, Ince, Hughes, Beckham, Van Nistlerooy and Keane. What did he win after that? (Insert rolley eyes here) I think it would be more logical to say IF Rooney was playing like he was last year. But he's not. Rooney hasn't scored from open play since last year. How is that dominating? Fergie will need to go out and find an answer (I don't think that he has one... yet) but it's not like this hasn't happened before. What did he win after that? (Insert rolley eyes here) Alot of those guys were well on the down-side of their careers before he got rid of them. In some cases they were still at their peak but the Rooney situation is pretty unique since he is just entering his prime. The CRonaldo situation was a bit similar I guess, but it can be argued that "Sir Alex" hasn't recovered from that loss either. I think it would be more logical to say IF Rooney was playing like he was last year. But he's not. Rooney hasn't scored from open play since last year. How is that dominating? I didn't say he was dominating this season. But this season is so early its silly to jump to conclusions about his career going downhill.

Is that a joke, unless Mourihino has hhinted at wanting to be there coach, why would you can the greatest sports coach of all time, arguably, for a player who is a "prima donna" and rips into his own nations fans. I would not even think of choosing Rooney over Ferguson, That would be just insane, you can't put a player above the team and that is what you would essentially accomplish by canning Ferguson. There is no way ManU can not allow Ferguson to leave on his own terms, he's earned that right. Lets be real here, they wouldn't have to rely on Berbatov, They are sitting on a small fortune from the Ronaldo sale, then if you threw in what they would make off Rooney, they'd be able to add whoever they wanted. If they sold Rooney, they surely dip deep into there pockets to replace the skill they have lost. If Sir Alex has proved anything over his tenure is that ManU is bigger than any player, and they will and can succeed by finding others to the job, he has done it over and over again. I agree the player can't be above the team, but Ferguson isn't the team. What it comes down to for me is that the team is better off having a great player for the next 10 years than a great manager for the next 1-2 years. If they get rid of Rooney the team will obviously need to do a major rebuilding project (when you consider the fact that Scholes and Rio - 2 other big pieces of the team's core - are getting old). And Ferguson isn't likely to be around to see the rebuilding process through since he's so old. Lets be real here, they wouldn't have to rely on Berbatov, They are sitting on a small fortune from the Ronaldo sale,. Actually they are sitting on a huge debt. If they had money to buy players they would've bought some this past summer as they obviously have some serious holes on their team.

SthMelbRed
Moving to Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, or Munich would undoubtedly be best for Rooney as a player. Great players prove their degree of greatness when they are placed out of their comfort zone. If Rooney moved abroad for what should be some of his prime playing years, this would also benefit the English game, as it would probably lead to more young English players moving abroad and expanding the nation's narrow footballing horizons. Look how much it has benefitted Spain since some of their top players have gained experience playing in different leagues.

He wants Yaya Toure money. The only clubs who might pay the price tag are Man City or Real Madrid.

But the key players on the Spain NT have never left Spain. Same is true for Germany who some claim were the second-best team in South Africa. SthMelbRed
But the key players on the Spain NT have never left Spain. Same is true for Germany who some claim were the second-best team in South Africa. Not every player has to leave to play abroad for there to be a benefit to the national team. The experience that those that do leave gain is brought back to national team camps and can benefit the whole group. In the last six years or so, players like Alonso, Luis Garcia, Fabregas, Morientes, Reina, Pique, and Torres have taken a whole different way of approaching football back to the Spanish team and this sort of thing can only have a positive effect. amacpher
Well, so much for that. Both Rooney and Man United came to their senses and realized that the best thing for both sides was for Rooney to stay at the club. Might've just been a negotiating ploy all along, although it really damaged United's title chances in the process. Dropping so many points already and haven't played any of the top teams in the league yet.
