Keegan
Who are we looking at for this Olympic team? The good thing this time around is that we will have so many players playing in North America that we will have closer to a full squad than in 2008. A few names that come to mind as being called or named at least are Nana Attakora, Adam Straith, Gabe Gala, Phil Davies, Ethan Gage, Reda Agourram, Edwini Bonsu, Marcus Haber, Michal Misciewcz, Roberto Stillo, Derek Gaudet, Mozzi Gyorio, Eddy Sidra, Paris Nakajima.. Im not familiar with too many players and how they rank All those guys are pros who have played first team football (except Stillo he played in a friendly for Genoa). Who else would people here expect to see on the team? Or even who out of my initial group would expect to not be on the team? Other names I can think of who could be named are Nicholas Lindsay, Russel Teibert, Simon Thomas, Kyle Porter, Kevin Cossette, Niall Cousens, Teal Bunbury(?) I've seen a number of those players play.. I think we could get Haber for the tournament but im not sure about Straith or Misciewcz.
deschamp86
ST Teal Bunbury (Kansas City Wizards, MLS) Marcus Haber (St. Johnstone, Scotland) Reda Agourram (Montreal Impact, NASL) Igor Pisanjuk (Szolnoki MAV, Hungary) Jaineill Hoilett (FSV Mainz, Germany) Niall Cousens (FC Hlucin, Czech Republic) Randy Edwini-Bonsu (Vancouver Whitecaps, NASL) Kyle Porter (Vancouver Whitecaps, NASL) Alex Semenets (Vancouver Whitecaps, NASL) MF Junior Hoilett (Blackburn Rovers, England) Nicholas Lindsay (Toronto FC, MLS) Phillipe Davies (Vancouver Whitecaps, NASL) Mozzesh Gyorio (FC Tampa Bay Rowdies, NASL) Gabe Gala (Toronto FC, MLS) Derek Gaudet (Portland Timbers, NASL) Kevin Cossette (Montreal Impact, NASL) Russell Teibert (Vancouver Whitecaps, NASL) DF Nana Attakora (Toronto FC, MLS) Adam Straith (FC Energie Cottbus, Germany) Ethan Gage (Vancouver Whitecaps, NASL) GK Roberto Stillo (Genoa CFC, Italy) Jordan Santiago (Cardiff City, England) Julien Latendresse-Levesque (FC Energie Cottbus, Germany) Simon Thomas (Vancouver Whitecaps, NASL) Looks like we have good depth everywhere but defense. Awesome list, I'd add Paris Nakajima and Eddy Sidra to defense and Misciewcz to the keepers though. When Sidra finds a club where he can play first team football I think he'll be a key player for this U23 cycle after all he's already made an impact at the senior level. I think Edmonton or Montreal should sign him for next season.. give him a year in NASL and then maybe he can move to an MLS club. Who's on the radar from NCAA clubs? Usually we have some of those but we haven't heard much. The team looks pretty good so far though we have a year and a half for players to fill out that defense Edit: Michael Nonni is one to probably watch from the NCAA at UCSB
deschamp86
Yeah my list pretty much only has guys that are playing or have played first team football recently, plus some guys that are in top level reserve teams. Just shows you that we may not even have to dip into the NCAA pool this time around for players. I would like to see Paris and Sidra playing some first team minutes before getting considered, and I agree that an NASL team would be a good option for both of them. Misiewicz, I wasn't too happy that he went from playing some reserve for Sunderland to playing youth for Polonia, though I imagine he should be getting first team minutes soon if he's progressing well. Ivan
Add Fabrice Lassonde and Doneil Henry to the D, although Lassonde may be playing more in midfield at Ingolstad. Shaun Saiko should get a long look in MF.
Mazha
Very excited about this group of young men that we have available for our Olympic 2012 qualifying challenge. Did we EVER have this many Canadian boys playing for quality European, MLS and USL clubs?

Did we EVER have this many Canadian boys playing for quality European, MLS and USL clubs? Not just playing on these teams but Davies, Attakora, Haber, Straith are pretty key players for their sides... add to that Bunbury hopefully!! Also in a year and a half I expect some guys like Teibert/Lindsay/Gage/Edwini Bonsu/Gala/Agourram and at least one of the keepers to see more playing time as they get older. Gyorio seemed to have a lot of time for Tampa Bay this past season and scored a brace in his teams final game. Gaudet saw a little time at Portland idk what hes going to do next year.. Montreal or Edmonton?

Doneil Henry will probably be a little young for this cycle (hes eligible next cycle too). I think we'll have a squad that should be favoured in our group to make the semi finals and knock off teams like Guatemala, T and T etc. just whether we get the clearance from some of these players clubs to release them is another question and im thinking the only problems would be from overseas clubs. phil7777
I know this is an extremely noobish question but is there an Olympic rule preventing our usual players (DeGuzman, Hutch, etc.) to play at the olympics?

deschamp86
^ To add onto that answer, I believe if Canada qualifies for the Olympics, three overage players are allowed to be added to the squad, but until qualified if players born in 1989 or after. jpg75
I had compiled lists of the U20 player pools for 2009 and 2011, but i can't find them anymore...i'd say we have about 60-80 players in the pool tha we could conceivably draw upon. Roughly from the top of my head here's a short list: Goalies: Julien L-L (Energie Cottbus) Michal Misiewicz (Bytom Polonia) Roberto Stillo (Genoa) Keenan Gracey Adam Street* (Unattached) - Has he retired? Defenders: Nana Attakora Adam Straith Ethan Gage Paris Nakajima Fabrice Lassonde Eddy Sidra Doneil Henry Ricardo Ferreira* (Porto U19 CB did not play for Portugal during U20 qualifiers)
jpg75
Midfielders: Shaun Saiko (Edmonton FC?) Philippe Davies Milos Scepanovic Jarek Whiteman Augustine de Medina Derek Gaudet Russell Teibert Nicholas Lindsay Bobby Kajgo (Canada or Serbia?) Forwards: Marcus Haber Randy Edwini-Bonsu Igor Pisanjuk Mozzie Gyorio Vlad Vukovic Teal Bunbury (will he play?) Jr. Hoilett (will he play?) phil7777
Olympics are U-23 Thanks! So does this mean that Olympic qualifiers and games do not count for FIFA rankings?
Blackdude
Thanks! So does this mean that Olympic qualifiers and games do not count for FIFA rankings? The Olympics don't give FIFA points. So, it is not a surprise that the qualifiers don't count for the rankings.
Sam
What's up with Eddy Sidra - is he still without a club. That's got to be a major concern for his future, looked bright down in South America
theaub
I believe those are the rules too...so if we qualify, Atiba Hutchinson, Josh Simpson and... Kluko? If Football Manager taught me anything, the Olympics conflict with the start of the 3rd round of CONCACAF qualifying, so if that stays the same under the new format I'd doubt that we send anyone who is of importance to the MNT.
