Lost Causes

http://viewfromthesouthstands.com/2010/10/lostcause/

With the combination of victory for San Jose and of course the defeat by Toronto FC last evening in Los Angeles against Chivas USA, the Reds has been officially eliminated from the MLS Playoffs for the fourth season running. As well for the first time TFC will now finish a season in Major League Soccer with a lower points total than the previous year.

In this video blog I take a quick look back at the match, I call out a few players for a conspicuous lack of effort and I try and explain to the team why a lost cause is still battle worth fighting.

Agree on the lack of character being displayed by JDG and DeRosario. Disagree slightly on Garcia in that I think he only appeared "out of position" because he was following the tactical instructions of Nick Dasovic. The pinching up into the midfield that both fullbacks appeared to be doing was part of creating lots of TFC pressure early in the second half but eventually enabled Chivas to score against the run of play. Garcia gets a lot of flak but one of the few (and perhaps only) positives about him is that he is an excellent passer of the ball over 30 to 40 yards, who can get the ball to a midfielder's feet under control to quickly start an attacking move, in the sort of way JDG gets the big bucks to do but usually isn't able to at the moment. He wasn't really getting the opportunity to do much of that on Saturday.
