This is to keep me from making a whole thread everytime I make a video, and of course I got a new one now and it's actually really good, almost 7 minutes and worth it:

North York Astros vs Brampton Lions May 16th 2010

North York Astros vs London City August 22nd 2009

North York Astros vs Trois Riviere Attak July 18th 2009

North York Astros vs Italia Shooters July 25th 2009

The new video is North York Astro's vs Toronto FC Academy on July 15th 2011, only about 3 minutes but I think it's good.

And does anyone else have load problems with all these video screens? I was corrected into doing this but if other people are having a problem I'll switch them back to old fashion typed links.

Nice video. TFCA has some slick individual skills. They pulled that one out of the fire late but it looks like the game should have been about 6-3 for NYA! Who is that powerful forward NYA has - age?

Does TFCA find kids on these CSL teams and sign them or do all the best youth players stick to whatever the top tier of Ontario youth soccer is?

Nordo Gooden, he's been around the CSL (with Brampton before) and lately for U of T as well. The best I can find pegs him at 26, maybe a little old for our radar (he's listed as Jamaican though). He seems to do a lot of community and youth coaching work too.

Watching the full 90, I'd actually say TFCA was the better team, but you can't really show enthusiasm too easily in a video so the quality moments are pretty even. North York's problem is they have like 6 guys of real quality, and then usually a few guys are a little out of their depth (usually a little too young and inexperienced to be consistent over multiple 90's).

edit: TFCA usually aggressively goes for younger prospects from all sorts of programs and get a strong mix of talent to work with and keep adding young guys here and there. The CSL teams similarly target potential talent, but can't afford to do it as aggressively(thoroughly), it's more common for the CSL to find a few strong prospects (and completely raise a few) the same way TFCA does (scouting) and then add TFCA players that don't move to very good leagues, and PDL players, and then the best CSL teams pick up a lot of players from the worst teams etc.. I wouldn't be surprised if a few youth guys from CSL teams did get picked up for higher youth levels with TFCA, TFCA has a lot of cache. Generally I'd say TFCA has less then half the top prospects in the league, probably more then a quarter though.

So what's the reason TFCA would only have 25-50 perc of the "top" prospects though? THe other CSL teams appear to be signing them first and thus TFC doesn't want to pay any compensation for them?

Well it's not a perfect comparison because of TFCA age limits, but of the guys aged 17 - 20, theirs probably 15 - 25 players in the league who TFCA would probably have loved to have spotted (or in some cases, wish they didn't pass on). To be honest I was being rough with my figures, I can name a couple to a few of these guys on a few squads (was guessing their was a similar number on a few other squads I don't watch much) and then roughly determining (IMO) how many of the players would be pushed off the TFCA depth chart by these other prospects(I was guessing about 10 - 15 players would still be in a 30 man squad (which is a little confusing in TFCA terms)).

A lot of guys would love to get on with TFCA but theirs just so many people in the area, plenty don't get spotted, get rejected and on top of that I don't think TFCA signs many 17 year old's anymore. I believe TFCA even compensates pretty well with scholarship programs. I hate to get into this stuff but it really boils down to, that even with an MLS team in Toronto, running an amazing academy, a bunch of players fall between the cracks very early on. This is why I prattle on about more teams, it's more eyes at varying distances closer to the ground.

Well if the d3 and eventually more d2 teams can come in (having Ottawa and Hamilton will be huge for Ontario player ID'ing) then these players won't get missed. especially if the d3 are in the NCC. The Ott/ham guys will be of course. As well, if the D3 teams can affiliate with a pro team or two then huge gaps are filled.

anyway - thanks.
