Whitecaps fans: whom would you rather see miss the playoffs?

Given the PNW rivalry I don't think it matters to me. As a Canadian supporter I think it would boost the game hugely in the media if TFC could pull a rabbit out of the hat and make the playoffs. San Jose or Colorado could also slip and Chicago & Kansas have 2 games in hand over TFC so it is more of a 6 way finish in which only 2 will make it.

Whoever falters is done. TFC must win 4 and tie Columbus. With 13 points they'd be at 44 and might make it but their fate is in others hands.

^I'm pretty sure that once the 'Caps are in MLS and competitive from day one and on a consistent basis, any perceived insecurity towards TFC will be more or less replaced by pity.

Yes, because the Leafs' sucking for years has really stemmed any insecurities from the rest of the country towards Toronto...

(See my sig line for evidence of that.)

You're confusing "insecurity" with mockery...it's like laughing at the fat kid on the moped...you know it's wrong, on some level we probably all feel a bit bad for you...but y'all make it so hard that it's easier to laugh at you.

You don't even know me, but thanks for laughing at me based solely on where I live. If that's not textbook insecurity, I don't know what is.

What the hell did Torontonians do to deserve such pettiness from people thousands of kilometres away?

(To be clear, I don't think all Vancouverites feel this way, I have quite a few friends that live out that way.)

My Bad...it wasn't personal...I meant the universal you. Sorry about that.

The sentiment stems from the in your faceness that Toronto throws at everyone regardless of how bad your teams suck. I believe that is what caused the whole rif during the friendlies a while back. Toronto as a whole has this sense of superiority that is easy to mock because of how ****ty all of your organizations are run. It's nothing personal against you...it's just a lot of fun watching you (Toronto) suck at basically everything. A little humility goes a long way in life.

Not a Torontonian, never lived there, but here's a case in irony rivaling Rudi's sig:

If I was actually really good at anything, I would certainly be humble about it and I certainly wouldn't boast about things I suck at. Perhaps you have a different lexicon than I because to me your post makes no sense.

Though I have been trying to be quite ironic on a few post today...just not this one.

As Richard has pointed out elsewhere, it's just supply and demand. The country needs Toronto's superiority, so Toronto delivers. (Witness the blue shirts at a Flames or Canucks game.)

You got a problem with that, take it up with your local Toronto supporters, not the Toronto residents. :D

No Problem...and I agree with you. It's lots of fun though to raze them ain't it!! :P

I am sure if we had Vancouver ex-pats all over the country acting like Vancouver was the greatest it would get annoying pretty quick. The same way people here complain about "foreigners" who are born here and cheer for their country of "origin". The whole thing is actually pretty ironic. Imagine being 17 years old and having to choose between your country of birth or playing in the World Cup. It's easy to be some dude in an office or on a construction site and judge so and so etc, but geez man, OH clearly wasn't the answer to our hopes. If he gets fit and wants to return to his country of birth and play near family etc...I wish him all the best....

Rochat by the way has always had an ambition to visit and play in his country of birth which is why he signed here without DP status. He's alright in my books.

So there wasn't this overbearing West Coast attitude which is as pervasive, if not moreso, than the Toronto-centric attitude?

As for ****tily run organizations: When was the last time the Canucks won the Stanley Cup? And when was the last time the Grizzlies even played a basketball game?

And when was the last time the Grizzlies even played a basketball game?

I think Vancouver was jobbed by the NBA there. The team stunk the whole time, which affected attendance, and corporate support.

The then owner couldnt wait to move the team and the NBA did nothing to stop it. As fate would have it, that team is still a mess in Memphis.

Again I have no idea what your point is? When was the last time Fiorentina won the Champions League or Serie A...still a great organization. Anyway, I am sure everyone is getting sick of this thread a bit...didn't mean to strike a chord with anyone in Regina. Maybe Vancouver is your Toronto eh?

I support the Canucks and TFC, and outside of that I generally couldn't care about sports (i'm probably one of the few in SK who don't think the world starts and ends with the Riders). I'm just pointing out the double standard.

TFC is Vancouver's biggest rival, without a doubt in my mind. The Seattle rivalry is nice, as it is with Portland, but it's the TFC one that is most important. As such, I prefer them to miss the playoffs over Seattle.

Doesn't a "rivalry" require some sort of reciprocation?

Outside of the VCup, TFC fans generally don't give the Whitecaps a second thought. Montreal is our true rival, with Columbus in second. Vancouver doesn't even compute.

I don't even think Montreal is a rival in a soccer context - not yet anyway. I would say though that Columbus is the main rival at the moment, although even that is cooling a bit.
