djcuse
NEW YORK (AP)—Argentina’s national soccer team may play a pair of March exhibition games in the United States. Henry Cardenas, whose Cardenas Marketing Network announced a partnership in February with the Argentine Football Association, will meet next week with officials of the U.S. Soccer Federation and Mexico Football Federation. He hopes to arrange games for March 24 and March 28, which is during a FIFA fixture window. “Nothing has been finalized,” Cardenas said Wednesday. “We would love to play the United States and Mexico. If not, it could be Canada.” With Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Gonzalo Higuain and Javier Mascherano, the Albiceleste are among international soccer’s top attractions. Cardenas said several sites for the games were under consideration, but the East Coast was less likely because of cool March weather. Argentina last played against the U.S. in an exhibition at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., drawing 78,682 for a 0-0 tie on June 8, 2008. Argentina will be preparing to host the Copa America, South America’s championship, from July 3-24.

Sam
No thanks Seriously? Another chance to play Argentina!! In a game we could potentially watch if it is in the northern US.... hell yes!
Joe Keeper
I would love to see ths game played on home soil as we did go down to Buenos Aires for them, but a game is a game. We played Brazil close in the US a while ago. Mabey being even close to home could help us get a better result. I dont think we should be afrid to play the top teams just for fear of getting anhiliated. We need to get over this mentality of fear for teams better than us. No matter what Canadian national team I watch, it seems that we fall into the fear trap all to easily. Instead of siting back and trying to run damage control with super defensive tactics, we need to approach every game with respect for ourselfs as much as our opponents. I dont believe we will qualify for 2014 if we dont start to play with confidence and on our own terms. Yes places like Honduras and El Salvador are intimidating to play in but think we have let this mindset ruin us. I dream of the day when we have to go down to these places and play an intelligent game of soccer, fully confident of victory. Sure we may still loose , but I think our results on the whole will improve.

I don't think it is productive getting our ass handed to us, we should be playing countries at our level or slightly better. Argentina is too far ahead of us

Argentina is too far ahead of us I agree, playing argentina wont do any good.... Canada should be playing the likes of venezuela, colombia , peru ( rematch) , hell even chile ... smeghead
Canada should take on any game it can. Do people have bad memories? That game against brazil in Seattle was sweet to watch and i was proud to see Canada hold their own.
Jeremy
Ehh... I guess they wouldn't play all of their star players like they did in May, so maaaybbe... But I'm not big on the idea.

ray
I agree about taking the game if we can get it (and provided we can field a close to full-strength squad). That said, Argentina would clearly prefer USA and Mexico as their opponents so we'll probably be looking elsewhere for friendlies.
TFCRegina
If we get it...we take it, but we better have some friendlies lined up against (decent) CONCACAF opponents around that date as well.
Jeremy
Maybe we could do something like that : USA - Argentina Mexico - Argentina And at the same time Mexico - Canada USA - Canada ?
JamboAl
Good idea Jeremy. It's about time we had a US-Canada friendly. I'd be for going to NYC for that.
afun
It would be nice if it was hosted in Canada as far as making some money for the CSA.
Edgar
Argentina's fee for a friendly match is 1.000.000 Euros. However, since Cardenas is handling it he will pay the fee then he will be looking to get a huge stadium with lots of fans in order to get a profit (even after paying Argentina). I'd think twice before accepting to play against Argentina. It serves no purpose now.
Free kick
Seriously? Another chance to play Argentina!! In a game we could potentially watch if it is in the northern US.... hell yes! I still have not watched that game we played against them. I missed it due to conflicts but considered getting a hold of it. But from what I heard from a few of the regulars here who were at the Duke watching the Can-Ven game, its not worth watching and was cautioned against it. That kind of said it all to me. Playing certain sides right now who are at a certainly level is not good for selling the game and the NT in canada and can have the reverse effect. Its been tried and we have had our games against some of the worlds best in the last 6-8 years ( ESP, POR, GER, BRA, ARG...etc) and I cant see any positive impact from it. It was fun initially, but i dont see the point of it anymore, nor do i enjoy it.. Ultimately its CRC, Hon, and Jam that we have to beat out in our region, not Argentina. And the point of friendly is preparation and team building. A professional 26-30 year old player is not going to learn something startlingly new by playing against the like of Messi, Higuain, and Tevez. If we qualify for the 2014 WC and are looking a pre WC opponent, then I can see playing these kind of sides.

Has anyone ever seen that South Park where Stan has to coach a children’s hockey team? Anyway they take over for the Avalanche in the third period with the score tied 2-2 against Detroit. At the end Detroit wins 32-2 and mostly beats up and assaults those children. That is what Canada vs Argentina was like Free Kick

Watch it you'll see Canada playing in a stadium with 70,000 + fans, you'll see Canada up against some of the best players in the world, and you'll see how much we have to improve. Yep you're right in one sense we don't want to be playing these teams every FIFA date, but its important to play these games. If we have a game at the Azteca it will be similar. Do you think the three teams from CONCACAF that made the World Cup Mexico, USA and Honduras would turn down a friendly against Argentina? No, if thats the level we want to be at we have to start playing like those programs.
