If Jono decides to play Canada how is it possible for Jono to play for Canada when he no longer posses a Canadian passport? Isn't this the same reason Tam cannot play for Canada because he doesn't have a Canadian passport?

i seem to recall marc bircham playing games for canada without ever having set foot on canadian soil.

I'm pretty sure he was able to get dual-citizenship.

Bircham had a Canadian grandparent. I believe FIFA rules are that you must have either citizenship, be born there, or have your (grand)parents born there.

JDG2 was born in Canada, Bircham's grandfather was born in Canada. Tam was born in Mawali, later got citizenship in Canada, was cap-tied and then renounced his citizenship and thus does not qualify under the conditions listed above.

Excuse my schadenfreude (and apologies for stirring up any who still have delusions that he might someday play for us), but it seems that JDG2 still can't catch a sniff with the Dutch national team. He was not named in either the 23-man squad or as one of the 3 injury replacements for their upcoming Euro 2012 qualifying games.

Just putting that out there.

^ Not only that, but of the forwards and midfielders called up (hard to place JDG2 firmly in either of the 2 categories) three are younger than JDG2 while 3 more are only a year older. Frankly I'm a bit surprised he hasn't been called by this point. If there's not more to this story, he should soon be able to read the writing on the wall.

Jono scores on a free kick, the winner vs. Zaragoza.

When Barcelona played in Mallorca a few weeks back his first half was superb, as was the whole team really, then Mallorca dropped off as Barça scored before the break.

So if HOlland is at all interested, they should make a move. He is having a very strong year.

Jonathan started scoring down the stretch (3 goals in the last month), unfortunately this coincided with his club tanking it and coming 1 point away from relegation!

2 points in the last 5 games and 6 points in the last 9 does not cut it, Mallorca are extremely lucky that Depor could not manage a result at home with Valencia or else it would be Mallorca instead of Depor going down.

Jono not named to the Dutch squad set to face Brazil and Uruguay:

http://www.goal.com/en/news/468/internationals/2011/05/13/2484484/netherlands-name-experimental-squad-for-brazil-uruguay

Midfielders: Ibrahim Afellay (Barcelona), Mark van Bommel (AC Milan), Theo Janssen (Twente), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City), Hedwiges Maduro (Valencia), Stijn Schaars (AZ), Wesley Sneijder (Inter), Kevin Strootman (Utrecht), Rafael van der Vaart (Tottenham Hotspur), Demy de Zeeuw (Ajax)

A number of players have dropped out of this list (Lens, VdV, Sneijder, Van Bommel etc.) and one of the replacements is Georginio Wijnaldum of Feyenoord, the kid who replaced Jono at his old club.

Canada's starting to look like a good option.

He isn't getting into the Dutch team and needs to move on from that. Maybe he has. I believe however he may not be eligible for Canada any longer due to citizenship?

But, I think he'd almost rather not play for Canada, it might appear, despite his brother being a key cog.
