First time i've seen Jono with Mallorca and in the 15 minutes i watched (between mins. 55-70) he looked pretty good. He seemed to be playing as a central attacking mid in this game but was active coming back to defend, looked like Mallorca were using a 4-2-3-1 or some variation...looks like a good La Liga box-to-box mid and he would be a great addition to the CMNT, but i'm not sure where he fits in with the Dutch. He's not tough enough to be one of their d-mids and i'm not sure he's got the world class skills to be the #10 or fast/dangerous enough to be a winger.

His crosses, corners and free kicks are superb. Excellent technique. Reminded me of the Rob Friend debate watching JDG2 swing 'em in, because here's the service a player like Friend would really benefit from. Ah well...sigh/vomit

He was excellent against Real Madrid as well at the end of August .

de guzman sets up webo who draws a penelty 6 mins in. mallorca lead valencia 1-0 away.

I watched the first half of Mallorca's match vs Valencia and JDG2 was very impressive. He absolutely undressed two players in the centre circle with a nice turn and acceleration forward, and then finished the move with a nice ball through which drew the penalty for the opening goal. JDG2 was a constant threat throughout the first half and the Valencia players began chopping Jono down bc of this. Wish I could have seen the second half to see if he could have kept up the form.

God I hope he comes back to us!

Not quite good enough for the Dutch, yet too good for Canada (in his eyes I suppose). It will be interesting to see what he does. I fear that if he transfers to a club like Villarreal, Seville, or Valencia, (and becomes a starter) he will leap frog players like Lens of PSV who are winning caps for the dutch as of late. That being said, if he has another major knee injury I feel like his chance of playing for the Dutch will be over. All I know is one thing, after watching him a bit this season, I am convinced he would be in the top three attacking midfielders in Concacaf, no exaggeration. His ball control and vision and playmaking skills are all excellent and he can take freekicks (although I haven't seen one from him yet this season). Jonathan and Atiba attacking with Julian distributing behind them would be a midfield that would even concern Mexico and USA

I'd like to see concacrap defenses cope with that attack. We can dream.

Hutch and JDG2 as an attacking midfield duo... *drools*

If we were to get the Jono i'm pretty sure Hoilett would follow. I'd trot out this:

----------------Hoilett----Gerba/Occean-----------

Simpson-------------Jono-----------------Jackson

-------------Julian------------Hutch---------------

...And go with a 3-man backline. Attack, attack, attack...

If JDG2 were going to commit to Canada when would that likely be? Before the Gold Cup or before the next WCQ cycle? Which would be summer 2012 right?

The 1st round of WCQ starts next Fall. IMO he'd be likeliest to commit (if the thought has crossed his mind) if he's left off the Dutch Euro 2012 squad.

Thinking of who hes has to compete against even to get a roster spot on that Dutch squad for 2012 I think JDG2 will has to make up his mind sooner rather than later, I personally think hes a good player but he will never crack that top tiers of the Dutch Midfield

From Wiki… recent squad against Turkey

MF Mark van Bommel ©

MF Rafael van der Vaart

MF Wesley Sneijder

MF Ibrahim Afellay

MF Wout Brama

MF Theo Janssen

MF Demy de Zeeuw

MF Stijn Schaars

FW Dirk Kuyt

FW Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

FW Robin van Persie

FW Eljero Elia

FW Jeremain Lens

FW Ruud van Nistelrooy

Missing most notably is Babel, De Jong, and Robben.

JDG2 hasn't got a sniff of the National team since Beijing in 2008 I believe? I would be very surprised if he was called up prior to the Euros but then again what the hell do I know, I'm just hoping and praying that he sees the light, renounces the dark side, and actually wants to play for the good guys [eh?]

As long as Van der Vaart and Sneijder keep their good form I can't see a place for JDG2, who is only 3 years younger than them I believe. Afellay plays as a defensive midfielder so he isn't competition. Who else plays in that central attacking role for the dutch? Can't really see the dutch playing him on the wing either, especially considering babel, robben, elia, etc.

Yeah that's the beauty of their 4-2-3-1 formation he's only really suited for that Central attacking mid position. VdV is an '83 and Sneijder is an '84 so they're not going anywhere soon. Plus there'll be a steady flow of young players coming up to compete for that spot, right now Siem de Jong (89) and Georgio Wijnaldum (90) are the next group coming up.
