Alberta Soccer Dispute Continues ON

The Edmonton and District Soccer Association (EDSA), one of the members considered in bad standing by the Charpentier crew, sent a sharp response to a letter sent last week regarding their "bad standing" and refusal to submit AMSL fees. Powerful letter, well-written and hopefully quashes some of the fear-mongering.

Anybody have a copy of it they can share?

All Alberta soccer people- we need to get everyone out to the next AGM ( let everyone know when/where) and get rid of these clowns. When you stop kids from playing ( why only the rural kids?- those same kids that stock the rosters of many urban teams) it's time for you to go.

Get to the meeting, speak up and be heard.

I think the next AGM is going to be a trainwreck. How are they going to create and pass a budget with this mess of bank accounts, litigiation, legal fees, no staff, etc, etc, etc.

The next election (either at the AGM or sooner) will also be quite a spectacle. I hope everyone remembers the actions of these board members and votes their conscience and refuses the temptation to trade their votes for promisings of favors or power

It is actually only the Districts who get to vote at an ASA AGM. To affect change you need to talk to your District reps to ensure they are aware of how you feel.

How embarrassing. Good people have been either fired or sent home (with pay) while this unbelievable drama plays on.

Odd...anyone notice that someone got promoted during this mess? Wonder how...LOL.

Weird isn't it. I wonder how this dispute had anything to do with Mike Traficante's son being promoted. lol

Do Mario and Colin really believe that people are intimidated by them any longer? They have done their worst. They have fired people, suspended people, threatened people and still the soccer tournaments went on.

They are galvanizing support against them

Too bad one team forfeited...it's a shame they can't reorganize the game to give the kids a chance to play it. I'm glad the Billings group has pushed ahead with these and that they were almost a resounding success (would be a resounding success if the illegitimate board hadn't spread misinformation).

It's a shame the kids got caught in the middle of an anti-reformer assault on everything and anything that is holy in the beautiful game.

What a joke! Anthony Jr. could not operate his way out of a paper bag! This really cofirms the old addage "it's not what you know, it's whom you know!"

Expect Mario to announce that out of the goodness of his heart he will let any teams that have paid provincial fees to play now. i'm sure it's finally sunk into his thick skull that he needs to do some damage control, too bad for him it's way too late to impress anybody. the staff firings today are unbelievably cruel and heartless. The man could be described as a certified sociopath.

Is there not a conflict of interest .... code at the CSA and ASA ?

I know such things are often ignored in Soccer but ..at times like these... people should not be giving sons pormotions or jobs.

They need a lesson on governance.

There are a lot of Sutter's in the NHL, Murray's as coach/GM's, Howe's, Hull's, Lenarduzzi's, etc. Although the son of a CSA board member getting a promotion in the heat of an ASA/CSA escalation is about 8 flavours of wrong.

Ironically, although Mike's son has benefitted enormously from this fight, Mike's Edmonton men's team, Ital-Canadians, are in EDSA, an organization that Mario has declared in bad standing!!

Here's the latest from Mario. Looks like he figured out a way to get around his own rules so his friends will be able to take part in provincials and make money to boot! The Ital-Canadians are in contention for a men's provincial T2 berth so now all they'll have to do is pay some kickback to Mario and they're in! Brilliant, cynical yes, but quite the scheme, have to think there was more than one of them to think this up.

"Good Evening Everyone;

The Alberta Soccer Association has decided to grant special dispensation to all previously declared provincial teams from Districts who are currently deemed to be in bad standing, allowing teams to participate in the Provincial Championships under the following conditions:

1) The ASA Office is advised of their involvement in the Tier IV City or U12 Tier IV Provincial Championships before 10:00 am on Wednesday July 14th, 2010.

2) The team or District agrees to pay the full declaration fee and annual fees for all of the players on the team. See a membership fee form and 2010 Price List for Membership Fees and Declaration Fees respectively.

3) All fees are to be paid to the ASA Office or by the team onsite before their first game. Fees will be accepted in the form of cash, money order, or certified cheque.

Please be advised that this is applicable to declared teams only. Districts will remain in Bad Standing, while their teams are allowed to compete. The deadline of 10:00 am on Wednesday July 14th is for Tier IV only. Additional information will be provided to Districts as we get closer to the Tier III, II and I Provincial Championships.

Please direct any political responses to this e-mail to either Mario Charpentier or Fred Kern.

Thank you for your consideration.

Cheers,

How does this apply to T1 to T3 Provincials that were scheduled to be hosted by 'bad standing' districts?

Like everything else, they'll make it up as they go along, always with an eye out for ways to make more money to put in the CWB unauthorized bank account.

This is almost verbatim the scare-tactic that the ASA used in an attempt to coerce AMSL teams from "districts in bad standing" to pay their fees a second time. It is obvious that the Charpentier-led ASA Board is close to broke and is scrambling for money. Money to hold competitions, money to pay for hotels, money for officials, money for lawsuits?
