oc64
The 5 suspended coaches face a disciplinary hearing with the Sherwood Park District Soccer Association tonight. Good Luck to the coaches. I hope, but am not optimistic, that common sense rules the day. These coaches deserve to be praised not disciplined. I hope all the parents and players involved show up to support them. 1867
I see that Skilstorm is registered in Alberta and Ontario-could someone do a search there to see who the shareholders are? It was very interesting to see that in the Washington search the people with an interest there were one Fred Kerr and peter malakoane. Not sure if the former was a typo or not. I would think it would be very intersting to see who the other people with an interest in selling things to soccer associations might be.
a_coach_in_ab
Lately the posts have become more of a "We need to affect change, but how?" type. Before they were more of a "can you believe these guys?" type. Many people on this thread have posted section from bylaws (myself included) but there has not been an attempt to fully describe the system in which soccer is managed. No place for newcomers to understand where they fit in and who they can express their concerns to. And finally, no place where the scale of frustration felt at the local level can be made visible. No offense intended to this site. We live in a time where social media is seen as powerful communication tool within society. Lets test that theory; I have created a facebook group titled Reform Alberta Soccer. I am looking for a couple of admins to help populate it with information about how Alberta Soccer is run. The information at this point must be entirely factual and verifiable. Once this information is in place I would like to open it to the community and have the group be a place where the grassroots can come to understand the system and also organize to affect change. If you are interested email me at acoachinab@gmail.com. Lets take back Alberta Soccer.
xtreme
Yes. Actually ALL SP Soccer coaches, players, parents from all levels need to find out when/where and show up to show their support. There are other SP teams that will face similar situations in just over 2 weeks at T3 Provincials. What happens at this hearing will surely be considered when those teams decide to attend Prov at a non-Mario sanctioned host. Good Luck to the coaches. I hope, but am not optimistic, that common sense rules the day. These coaches deserve to be praised not disciplined. I hope all the parents and players involved show up to support them. 1867
acoachinab-that is a great idea-people who might be considered neutral need a place to get info out there. Would your site have different threads so a person could stream various aspects of this matter-eg lawsuits-bylaws and structure-board decisions -csa? It is tiring for people to have to wade through various aspects and is daunting for a newcomer.

If you requested via facebook can you send an email to acoachinab@gmail.com answering the following to questions: 1) Are you a board member of the ASA (either side) 2) What district would you consider your home base. 3) How good you are at working with facebook groups. This would be my first. Our team group doesn't count I hope everyone can understand the need for question 1.) I do not want the group to be accused of being a front. Yes we have an agenda but it is our own I hope anyone associated with Mr Billings will understand that not being involved is actually better. I hope anyone associated with Mr Charpentier will also undersatnd. Question 2 is to ensure we have an admin group that covers as much of the province as possible. @1867: I hope to make it as simple as possible to find info. I am thinking of a page for each district: for names, contact info, links to local bylaws/rules the districts website etc. And one page dedicated to our provincial association. But most likely it will evolve as the amateurish admins eventually lose control Not even sure if Reform Alberta Soccer is correct my other thoughts were Grassroots Alberta Soccer and Alberta Soccer Watchdog

One caution though, let's stick to the facts as personal attacks, vitriol and rhetoric will not serve the purpose. Who and How are important aspects to reforming this mess. Sorry but I don't have that answer yet.
oc64
One caution though, let's stick to the facts as personal attacks, vitriol and rhetoric will not serve the purpose. . I agree. I would instruct your admins to delete any comments or postings that don't meet that criteria. I think facebook is a good forum for that type of discussion in that for the most part people will be using their real names. That, in and of itself, should help moderate comments. I won't be able to hide behind my alias there.

ASA a few years ago tried to start a forum for District Presidents to use, however the user numbers were so limited that it got almost no use - plus it was only accessible by password, one user per district. kj52
What time is the court appearance tomorrow? I'm waiting to find out the time. FYI the CSA lawyers have sent another warning giving until the end of the day tomorrow to drop all court action or they will begin disciplinary action. Again they claim they are consulting with FIFA and have their support. For obvious reasons the letter won't be publicly posted.

FYI the CSA lawyers have sent another warning giving until the end of the day tomorrow to drop all court action or they will begin disciplinary action. Again they claim they are consulting with FIFA and have their support. For obvious reasons the letter won't be publicly posted. They (CSA) seem to be very concerned that they are losing control of this situation. Unfortunately, ASA can't get back to business unless the court action proceeds. As we have discussed previously, the banking situation and the frozen account at Alberta Registries requires a court order in order to be resolved. They (the banks, and Alberta Registries) are not going to change their positions based on the 3rd party opinion of CSA Nothing gets resolved without a court action. All parties should look forward to finally reaching a decision one way or another. Perhaps, the CSA is simply seeking to control who is eligible to run in an election (if such a mandate is made by the court). If someone is suspended CSA can still say they are not eligible to stand for election. Hopefully the courts will address this issue. I wonder (don't have a real strong legal knowledge) if CSA can get in trouble for involving themselves in an ongoing court case. (Mario is quoted in the Journal as saying he couldn't make any comment on the case for fear of being held in contempt)

A resolution is still being worked on, there appears to have been a breakdown in communication with the other side and their lawyer regarding placing all districts in good standing and naming of caretakers. So the intent is still to have an interim agreement in place for tomorrow morning, if none is forthcoming then it will be up to the judge to decide how to proceed. Later in the day then or the following day I guess everyone will find out CSA's reaction.
