Alberta Soccer Dispute Continues ON

Plus it's much safer than the Mafia or other organized crime syndicates as a career choice. It's hard to resist the urge to shower after reading about this incredibly corrupt organization and the slime that lead it.

Reading some of the articles and books about FIFA almost makes me sad that Canada is hosting the Woman's World Cup. I know that being awarded that tournament came at a great cost (in money and integrity)

One hopes that soon CSA and FIFA will be forced to address their issues just like the ASA was. They are only allowed to exist in their current form because they are able to maintain some level of secrecy and control over information.

The reformers are currently winning the ASA battle because they effectively used communication tools like this forum and the reform alberta website to get their message out there. The best part is that they used the emails and documents written by Mario and gang to demonstrate their true nature. There was no need to paraphrase or manipulate the intentions of the anti-reformers. Their words and actions being put into a public forum took care of that.

I agree but I am worried the Alberta battle is still not over because some people feel they haven't left their legacy to the sport (belief of entitlement). Remember certain members hinted at what still may come by walking out on the AGM and not running a single Candidate for the board. One has to wonder what mischief they are up to and plotting? Why are they fighting so hard for a volunteer board position?

On the postive side, the people voted on to the board appear to be the right kind of people to move this organization forward. Reformers keep up the good work.

Hate to keep harping on it but when you ask why "volunteers" want to work so hard to stay on read Foul by Jennings. The scaled down parrallels are frightening. We refer to perks but in reality we are talking about people who have business interests firmly tied to the association-see skillstorm and paid committee positions-see recent CSA appointments of Innes and duberger. You can also look to the recent award winners of csa awards and they all appear to be ASA people rewarded for "service". Why so many Alberta winners in the past two years? Service equates to voting the right way-against reform and for the CSA executive. Now i am not saying that these are huge inducements but when you combine them with flights around the world and first class accomodations and free tickets for friends and family -you get a better picture of what motivates these "volunteers" to fight tooth and nail for positions when they are clearly not wanted. Two SGMS and an AGM would give the message to a normal person when to leave.

I don't think it is fair to brand all volunteers who are willing and able to run for provincial or national association office that way. There are plenty of good people working hard for the game at provincial and national level who don't deserve to be tarred with the same brush as a few bad apples.

Agreed Richard-we are talking about 3 or 4 individuals who have been voted out at 2 sgms and an AGM yet still fight on-using every trick in the book to maintain their positions and punish others. 99% of volunteers at CSA, ASA or any of the other associations are there because they love the game and would never dream of costing their association millions to fight so they can stay in power despite the will of the membership. My point was these 3 or 4 people have learnt from the best and they strive to be like them.

One thing to add-and perhaps these three or 4 might consider this is even if CSA somehow reinstalls them they would be required to resign from their local board positions because of the bylaw amendent. I doubt they have thought that far ahead. That may not be too hard for Colin now but i doubt Mario would do so.

That is the reason I said the reformers are winning instead of the reformers have won. Unfortunately I think there will still be another chapter or two to this story

I heard that the csa appeals committee turned down the csa executive committees appeal to have alberta reformers bowie, aab etc banned for life rather then the current one year ban they have from sitting on asa or csa. Is there a thaw at CSA? Not the executive but some of the directors who sit on these appeals committees seem to be trying to send a message with their last two rulings against the CSA executive.

That's the mystery to me. What perks are we talking about?

What about getting the supposed Gowlings opinion letter that Mario kept quoting but never showing anyone regarding the supposed legality of the "suspension" of Billings?

What about finding out how much of the Gowlings $800000 bill was to defend the removed board members personally from the slander and wrongful dismissal lawsuit by Cammarata?

The town hall meetings should be the first priority. Lets find out what people would like to see done by "their" organization.

Biggest challenge for the new reformers ASA is -

1. moving forward with a new plan -

- money is going to be tight so a budget is important and it should be shared to all stakeholders to get support

- transparency with all stakeholders by setting new requirements that all stakeholders do the same

- audit right away as they are over due.

- have 1/4ly financial reports to the stakeholders to show how the ASA is moving forward, generate positive interdependence and trust

- ASA needs a need image so branch out the roles of the board to the stakeholders by giving them connections

- reconnecting with all stakeholders, sponsors, all levels of government. do away with the ivory tower of Perkie Boys

- reform the ASA so what happen doesn't happen again

- make long term plans for the ASA to follow that all stakeholders have a say in. This makes it difficult for a new rogue board to go off on their own and shaft the stakeholders

- create a platform and philosophy that defines the new ASA for the future to all. Show the way

2. by a neutral independent party review the old plan -

- of the past years debacle

- review all minutes

- review staff firings

- review of accounting via forensic audit. this should take place parallel to a current audit

- create a Dispute Resolution Process (DRP) before the CSA does and insure the ASA and other PSO's have input on the CSA DRP

- review all CSA correspondence and hold them accountable

- discuss what when on, how to avoid it again and who to hold accountable with all stakeholders.

- report to the stakeholder and beyond all findings so the soccer community can learn. Tell the truth will help in rebuilding burnt bridges and help other to avoid the same pitfalls.

It's a lot of hard work ahead of the new ASA board and their staff but they are the right team to do it. Positive change will bring buy in and satisfaction for the stakeholders to become more involved.

I can't see it anymore as I think all the avenues via the CSA and the courts are closed to Mario and Mikie T. I don't see the CSA trying to go against the courts as that is what they would be doing if they tried to reverse anything the courts have supported the ASA to do like a SGM and AGM.

What Mikie T said at the ASA AGM which I understand came across as a threat and the way Mario acted was nothing more than a smug act by a group trying their last hail Mary. As I said before the new ASA board should report Mikie T. to the CSA and ask for them to confirm or censure Mike T's statement at the ASA AGM.

Mike Ts censure will come in the form of a vote at the CSA AGM. We can keep him around here full time.

My guess is that if CSA is going to act they will wait until the eve of the AGM and then accept Mario as the delegate and have security at the door to escort Ole out of there. This will negate Court intervention and media scrutiny. It will likely still be up to the full CSA board to approve the delegate dispute but I am sure they will take that chance. This is in keeping with their previous actions by CSA in May 2010 and also in Jennings book this is how FIFA acts when they can bully a smaller poorer nation like Haiti.

I don't see how they can do that. Regardless of the SGM the President's post was up for election this year. Ole ran unopposed and won the election at the Annual AGM fair and square.

Yes-you are correct-but what they should do legally and what they can do arbitrarily are usually 2 different things. Why should this be any different? I sincerely hope they dont but every time i predict the worst with these guys i am right.

True enough, if done at the last minute there is no time to appeal and the damage is done. Of course such heavy handed action might be the end of the good Dr.

To do this the whole CSA board would have to go along and would have to explain charges of an action that may look like collusion. When the Alberta courts speak, the CSA board will have to defend their actions in front of the courts and to the membership in the media. Once this happens the call for the CSA board to resign will be huge as the courts will be right. Also, when the courts win, each individual on the CSA board will be responsible for their courts costs as each CSA board member knew prior to their actions that the court had judgements for the ASA to hold a SGM and AGM. Further the CSA would have to explain their actions to Sports Canada as they do support the laws of the land. IMO the CSA board members downside to doing anything further in supporting Mario and his Muppets is very expensive to each CSA board member due to the 2 levels of Alberta courts judgements. Also, anything the CSA is found to have done against the courts can be undone. Bottom-line once again is a quick reform but add court charges to each CSA board member.

I thought the letter he sent to Mario in January saying that Mario had nothing to worry about would be the good doctor's demise. Appearantly, he has some feline blood in him and has a few more lives left. I'm afraid to count how many but hopefully there are only a few...

This was from back in Nov. 2010. I would love to see if this guy is still smiling from ear to ear. How does that Crow taste now?

I would just like to say how foolish you all look. with your "fox news" like spin on the ruling from the judge. Chris is suspended, those who took ASA to court will be suspended from CSA and all of you losers (although your ranks have swelled to 5!!) can continue to speculate as to what to do next. The real board is back in and this was done from an independent unbiased judge, who quite obviously found the lies and damage that your side has caused quite concerning. (You should read Chris Billings affidavit it is quite comical! It is like reading a play…. How he tries to lie, and camouflage what he has done is very amusing) Everyone in Soccer would be more than happy to have all of you leave ASA, and CSA and FIFA (I don’t like to beg…. But please!). Then there would be peace and those who are truly in it for the sport of the game for everyone can move forward.

1. The true board has won

2. The judge ruled that all of what you guys supported was wrong

3. Many of your board members have threatened to leave ASA and CSA..... Away you go!

4. You will never win when your cause is based on bigotry, lies, and racist beliefs. There are too many good people in this province to allow this to happen.

I will not be reading your responses as arguing when you win is pointless and a waste of my time. I will read this again in about a month or so to see what spin you put on when the AGM is close.

I wish you could see the smile on my face (ear to ear baby!) 

Until then Cheerio!

Good old Fairthought-we havent heard from them in months-it would be good to hear the other side of the debate. If they could get their lower jaw to come off the floor perhaps they could weigh in and answer a few questions: Do you still think it was just a few people against your regime? What do you think of CSA denying your appeal? What do you think of the Court of Appeal ruling which says threatening people with suspensions for going to court to stop you is a criminal offence? Three ASA votes all sent the same message that your regime is illegitimate-why is this? What do you think of the new bylaw that outlaws district board members from sitting on ASA-why do you think not one single EDSA or EIYSA Board member ran for ASA if you think this was just a power struggle with EIYSa and EDSA trying to take power? So many more questions. Start with answering those.
