AvroArrow
http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/2010/05/17/tfc_teen_retirement/ I don't know what I would have done if I was told at 17 I couldn't play soccer anymore. Feel incredibly sorry for the kid.
jpg75
"Toronto FC prospect Zachary Herold has been forced to put an end to his soccer career at just 17. The defender has been diagnosed with a condition called HCM which causes abnormal thickening of a part of the heart muscle. Strenuous exercise carries with it the risk of developing a potentially fatal irregular heart rhythm, or arrhythmia."
TheKottonmouthed1555362307
Thats terrible news, but somehting that should of been found before we Drafted him. Nice waste of a first round draft pick.
Spungi
Nice waste of a first round draft pick. Pretty sure he was a 2nd round pick

TheKottonmouthed1555362307
Thank god, I don't see how these things aren't found sooner, though. It's similar problem to what, Renuad and Cherepanov had isn't it. The two hockey prospects who passed int he last few years. Luckily, they cuaght Herolds before he hit the trainign ground with Preki who probably would of killed him by over training.
BringBackTheBlizzard
I suspect questions will be asked behind the scenes over whether MLS should be signing players to 6 year Generation Adidas deals prior to the Superdraft without being able to identify this type of medical issue. All the best to Zac Herrold in the future though. Tragic to see a promising career end before it even really started.
devioustrevor
Thats terrible news, but somehting that should of been found before we Drafted him. Nobody discovered it until after he was drafted. MLS and other teams' doctors would've looked at him too.

If they're Generation Adidas then it's not like they are a drag on teams' payrolls or salary caps. The only thing that is really important is that the condition was discovered before he ended up on an MLS field and theoretically putting his life in danger. BringBackTheBlizzard
I would imagine that TFC management would have liked their top draft pick in the 2010 Super Draft to actually be able to play for them one day. Mo Johnston selected Jozy Altidore with a second round draft pick in 2006 and he went on to play for the USMNT and get a $10 million transfer to Villareal.
