SCF08
http://www.limburger.nl/article/20100514/VTRODAJC01/100519801/1017#FC_Augsburg_haalt_De_Jong His contract with Roda JC runs out this summer and Marcel makes a free transfer to FC Augsburg. Augsburg are involved in a promotion/relegation battle with FC Nurnberg and they play the 2nd leg this weekend. They were completely outplayed away in Nurnberg and in the end managed to lose by only one goal (1-0). Marcel himself still has to play 1 game this season. Roda JC are playing the 2nd leg of their Europa League qualifier against FC Utrecht. Roda JC lost the 1st leg 0-2 at home.
deschamp86
Looks like a good move for him regardless of whether they move up or not. Hopefully they do move up though.
nolando
Not a bad move, but this wasn't the club he was reportedly set for, was it?
gator
I was hoping awhile back when Brennan retired that he may be on his way to TFC! Looks like a decent move for him, I think we sure could have used him in Argentina!
Grizzly
Not a bad move, but this wasn't the club he was reportedly set for, was it? When it was initially announced he wasn't going to re-sign with Roda, Aachen was mentioned as the favourite since it is the nearest club to where he is living (10 km from Kerkrade where Roda is located although he lives in nearby Belgium). However, even then Augsburg was mentioned as being in the running as well. About a month ago Aachen was reported to be out of the running and that he was close to signing with Augsburg. I guess he wasn't as opposed to moving as originally reported since Augsburg is near Munich and pretty far from Kerkrade/Aachen.
davelee05
Augsburg lost today 2-0 to Nurnberg, putting their promotion hopes to an end as they lost 3-0 Aggregate. Maybe remaining in the 2. Bundesliga is a good way for him to earn a first team position?
TheKottonmouthed1555362307
Good move, if he can find enough playing time. I'm hoping he may be on his way to the Caps in the future. Versatile left sided Canadian passport

Guest Ed
With that pic, I see that the manager of FC Augsburg is Jos Luhukay, who was the Moenchengladbach head coach during their great 2007/2008 season with Friend leading the team in scoring and promoted to the Bundesliga 1. And they just missed out this season, losing the promotion playoff to 3rd last placed Bundesliga 1 side FC Nurnberg.

Augsburg signed a very good central defender from the Eredivisie the day before De Jong's transfer. Gibril Sankoh signed on a free transfer from FC Groningen. FC Augsburg are giving it a proper go next season.
