alberta white
I actually like the crest. But I agree they should have chosen a different colour scheme. Well Chaps, Looking at the Crest, all I can say is.... Anyone for a game of Quidich! Joking apart, I don't think its all that bad. If it mirrors uniform colours then I'd hope for Blackburn Rovers style Black Blue Halfs, Inter Milan stripes or Even Bristol Rovers Quarters; although I often think that set up looks a little too 'Rugby Like'. (Anyone hold out hopes for a 'Design our Uniform' Competition? ) The crest might look a bit collegiate, but hey the Home Fields is at the UofA (foote field) so I don't have a problem with that association. Anyway as the combine looks as if it looking to capture a fairly young roster that could engratiate itself with the student body, well why not create that kind of following. Theres many a Liverpool/Man United fan created in a similar fashion in the UK. Hey stuff the Rig Pigs as a nickname, Why not the Scholars?
alberta white
Further to the other light hearted stuff above, I just lifted the quote below from the FCEdmontons website. "We would like to thank the University of Alberta and their personnel at Foote Field for accommodating FC Edmonton and look forward to maintaining the relationship to assist in the development of future players." I also note that the Edmontons new Pro-Scoccer Club is Now Officially a "Semi Pro Scoccer Club" Perhaps the collegiate Semi-Pro format may well be the direction their heading in. It could also be that the NASL doesn't typically pay livable salaries in expensive cities like Calgary and Edmonton.

TFCRegina
They are going to be semi-pro in a professional league? In many ways, NASL is a semi-pro league. In the larger cities you can't live off of the wages paid. That's why many of the players secure offseason jobs...

Admin
I think a really bad sign in the overall sense is to join the NASL and on your front page say you are semi professional. This will make a lot of people unhappy. Just to lack the global sense of anything to let that happen does not bode well.

barticusz
I am hugely disappointed in this logo. It takes all the cliches of clipart and throws them all into one gross mess. Why not something simple, and something that actually represents the city itself? I quickly put this together using paint, and I'm sure that FC edmonton could have done a much better job. What are your thoughts on this logo? https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/eIyI0h8ghpGl0T-qNn_BUsltbljKWdHeDpogq2uTr46k-lUp2RYof62x-4MhUMeWY-mnti93Hp58WGNIIn_6wuF0Ow=s512

This falls squarely into that pattern, perhaps even at the bottom end of that. BTW I'm not exempting the Impact crest from that judgement, and it will surely be redesigned properly when entering the MLS.
strobe_z
I've done a couple of designs and am going to send them to FC Edmonton... we'll see if they bite. If they don't, I'll post them here for all to comment on...

Does Edmonton's city flag have anything to do with a sun rising at all? You know what I mean, like the sun thing... on the top... rising. I actually like the crest. It is simple, and will allow for a natural nickname to develop through the hardcore fanbase, one that hopefully will dispell any **** ones that the media create. Any animals that are common to be seen near Edmonton? And no, rig pigs don't count, even if they are animals... Haha geez I should post the crest we came up with for the semi-pro club feasibility project for here in Saskatoon. It'd be interesting to see what the opinions on it are. alberta white
Anybody wanting to improve on the Crest should maybe pehaps take their cues from some of these Albertan classic images.. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://unimaps.com/flags-canada/alberta-flag.gif&imgrefurl=http://unimaps.com/flags-canada/alberta-print2.html&h=451&w=900&sz=30&tbnid=GO_-4Dj7zoYRcM:&tbnh=73&tbnw=146&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dflag%2Bof%2Balberta%2Bcanada&usg=__v0JXJOcDDeWvHilBOL2o-2ehtqQ=&ei=VNrPS6a9PIWIswPxjdXQBg&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=4&ct=image&ved=0CBAQ9QEwAw The Alberta Flag http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://farm1.static.flickr.com/164/394632038_320347a08e.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/sun_chaser/394632038/&usg=__L4XYmKjhe4hQ8ubkaSh36uLw9WE=&h=375&w=500&sz=108&hl=en&start=1&itbs=1&tbnid=_YHILXkXy7SGDM:&tbnh=98& The wild Rose. john tv
Who cares it looks great and you should be happy that it does not show the Dutch lion or a crest in Orange.Anyway they started their training and try outs and I assume we will see a reverse Dutch army taken over.Reading the bio's of these two coaches I was really blown away and out of curiousity how is their Canadian,English I mean. alberta white
^ Dwight was born in Turner Valley, so is a native Canadian Who played for the original drillers. (another who slipped through the MNT net) so i think his english should be okay. The Dutch tend (or seam) to have English as a second Language anyway. I was taken by how good Fulham's Australian Goalkeepers German was, Until I remembered his name! oops!
strobe_z
Who cares it looks great and you should be happy that it does not show the Dutch lion or a crest in Orange. It matters. A logo/crest says a lot about an organization and that one screams "we're cheap and low quality". People process a lot of emotion and information visually and, despite the saying, we all judge books by their covers all the time. Anyone who doesn't put the time/effort/money into their "cover" is asking for trouble because people will make a snap judgement at first sight and it's extremely hard to shift that opinion once formed. If you look bush-league, you'll be treated bush-league. ANYway, I didn't realize that FCE had rolled out their logo on more than just their website, so I'm guessing the chances of them changing it are slim to none... and I really should be concentrating on grad school and not indulging my graphic design hobby... so I decided not to send these in and just post them here for comments. Obviously I decided to stick to the EFC colour scheme and I didn't really have time to choose the perfect fonts.
Soju
^Nice work as always strobe. FCE's logo could've been a lot worse. I was expecting the usual N. American cartoon animal with bright colours. I'm guessing/hoping they won't put the embossed version on the kit, and that what they stitch onto it more resembles the above.

Havoc88
Obviously I decided to stick to the EFC colour scheme and I didn't really have time to choose the perfect fonts. These are a great starting point and infinitely better than the write off they've apparently approved. I personally think the first and third would move forward on - the mountain ranges at the top of the crest are clever, I'm just not crazy about the font and would probably try to stylize the rose and ball differently - also see what it looks like in the green and gold. Otherwise - I can say these were 100X more on track than the one they picked.
