leftcoastkicks
At today's MLS conference call, Don Garber mentioned that he will be in Vancouver on Thursday morning before opening the season that evening in Seattle. It sounds like he's meeting with Vancouver media. Is this just a check-in or are the Caps announcing something--new MLS 2011 Caps logo/kits for example? Johnnie Monster
Did he specifically say he's meeting with the media? If he does, it will merely be a check-in on progress to date, BC Place, etc. The kits aren't being announced until May. Now, if you really want to stir things up, consider this little bit of speculation: The Province newspaper has been reporting that PavCo has reached a leasing agreement with Paragon Gaming out of Vegas, and that the lands around the stadium will be home to a new hotel / casino / entertainment complex. It's possible some sort of announcement is forthcoming.
leftcoastkicks
At 1:04:56 of the conference call, Bruce Constantineau of the Vancouver Sun greets Garber, saying "look forward to seeing you Don, on Thursday morning." To which Garber replies "I look forward to going out there." So, again, not sure if there's something brewing but based on that little exchange it sounds like Garber will be meeting with at least one member of the media. Maybe he's just a friend of Bruce. leftcoastkicks
LOL - Yesterday I missed half an hour of the conference call. Listening to that portion of the conference call now, I have found the answer I was looking for. At the 18:30 minute mark, Garber says he's in Vancouver Thursday morning to meet with Caps staff, the mayor and the governor (I think he means "premier") for a rally to launch the one year countdown for MLS Vancouver2011. Case closed.
Free kick
Out of curiousity, has anyone heard whether or not the Caps had a seat at the table for the recent collective bargaining negociations with the players? Do they have right or say to signoff or OK on the deal?
