Guest Ed
Thanks for the interview. Mainz 05 have an excellent U19 program, as they won the whole kenoodle last June.
Razcle
Solid Article as always. I knew very little of Jaineil before this article and now I will keep more of an eye out and watch his development. I found it a little odd that he has no feelings towards Toronto FC given that it is a potential path for him to come home and play someday in the future, however maybe there is minimal MLS coverage where he is and his mind is solely on developing himself ATM. Does he have the same international opportunities as his brother does, because I have read that Jaineil will committ to Canada where as Junior is a toss up? What choices does Junior have that Jaineil doesn't or isn't looking at?
jpg75
^ They can currently play for either Canada or Jamaica. David will be eligible to play for England in the summer of 2014 if he stays in England.

He might not really identify with TFC due to the fact that he went to Europe before TFC even existed and he has not had a chance to watch them play. Clearly a Chelsea fan he's hopeful that he'll develop into a player that can compete at that level.
Sam
quote:Rednation Online: What are some of the areas that you still need to improve upon in order to become a better player? Jaineil Hoilett: I would say my finishing. I don’t think I have scored enough goals this season, so I’d like to improve my finishing towards scoring more goals. I don't want to throw the guy under the bus already, I'm sure he'll develop into a solid player and hopefully a top class international... but exactly what we need another striker who doesn't score
Guest Ed
He has 3 goals in 13 games on the best U19 team in Germany. As a MIDFIELDER. What's your problem?
Sam
I was slightly being facetious... but I thought he said he plays as a supporting forward. Either way I hope we see a lot from Hoilett... both of them.
bettermirror
It's nice to see he's already played in our program - I know that doesn't guarantee anything long-term, but nice nonetheless. Thanks for the interview!

Having spoken to many young professionals, the general sentiment is that MLS is still viewed as a path of last resort. the money stinks for young players (unless you are Gen Adidas), contract terms are unfavourable to young players, no free agency within the league, etc. etc... If a player has options in Europe, they are far better off exercising them until the time comes that MLS relaxes its cartel-like control over player contracts and movement. In Janeil's case, he might simply not have a lot of exposure to TFC but I have been told by several young Canadians players (with legitimate pro possibilities) that they have little to no interest in playing in MLS unless all other opportunities fizzle. Interestingly, rarely do they mention things like turf fields or poor quality of play...it always comes down to money and the feeling like the league has too much control
Razcle
^^ Well Money talks and until MLS can start paying development players better then tier 2 Norway we will see a lot of talent head out the door. I digress.
