Now I regret not waking-up early to watch this. But I can't help wonder about the credibility of the FA Cup. Man United fielded almost an entire "B" team, which has become the rule rather than the exception for many English clubs involved in European competitions.

Also many of the FA Cup matches on the weekend were played in front of empty stadia. I know the weather sucked, but still...

Seriously?

Your the coach of one of the top teams in the Premier League and you're playing a team 2 Div below you, would you play all your top players at the risk of injury against a bunch of guys trying to make a name for themselves?

As far as attendance I dunno about the rest but this game was close to 75,000 with 9,000 traveling from Leeds.

That's what makes the FA Cup interesting especially in the early rounds. What is a Premier League coach to do? Field 15 League starters and say 2 get injured or field your subs basically against lower division squads and hope for the best?

What would have happened if Leeds had some injuries and hurt thier promotion chances?

It's what makes the FA Cup.

More uncetainty than the EPL where almost any fan can name the top 4 or 5 in the standings at the end of the year in July[B)]

I understand there are good reasons for fielding a "B" team, but that doesn't change the fact that the FA Cup has become a third rate competition. Especially since most of the good reasons for fielding a "B" team center on maximizing revenue for the club.

Name me one domestic cup that is not a third rate competition.

Rooney and Berbatov started. Vidic was supposed to start but pulled out during warmup because of injury. Giggs, Valencia and Owen all came on as subs. I would still that is a pretty strong line up.

It was strong because Man United has a strong second-team.

The point is, the FA Cup was always a notch or two better than any other domestic cup competition in the world. But clubs simply don't care about it like they used to.

Every single player who started that game for Man. United had started a game in the Premier League this season. It was not a second string team, and as for not caring about the F.A. Cup it was against Leeds FFS one of our biggest rivals right up there with Liverpool and City. The effort from United was disgusting. And I can guarantee that the fans still care about it. This loss was the most upset I've been after a loss in a long, long time, possibly since Canada's World Cup qualifying display.

Some of United's players just ran through the motions and played like it was a Carling Cup game, not a game against the Leeds scum, it was one of the most disgusting performances I've ever seen from United.

Yeah, all I'm saying is that higher-up management doesn't rate the FA Cup anymore. Of course some fans still care because the tournament is rich in history, especially when your club is paired against a rival. But I expect that interest to disappear gradually if teams continue to field weakened sides.

Anyway, I said "Man United fielded almost an entire B team". The fact that all starters played at least one game this season doesn't make that statement untrue. Only Berbatov and Rooney would start if it was deemed an important match by management.

Funny your criticisms of the FA Cup, which I am sure are right on, because in Spain they are constantly citing it as the example to follow.

This midweek of Copa saw terrible crowds, except maybe at Camp Nou, and little interest. One reason is home and away, first leg is speculative, 2nd too, the football is not that exciting. Do you agree single matches is better for a Cup?

Another complaint is that you play Cup midweek, when folks work and have it tougher to take kids since it is later. Isn't is a positive thing that the FA Cup is played on weekends, giving it a priority over league matches?
