andersontwo
From the Omaha World Herald, column of random thoughts on sport by Brad Dickson. "Major League Soccer wants to put a team in Montreal. That's a fair exchange. Canada gave us mad cow disease, we give them soccer. I think soccer could succeed in Canada if it's done right. The players will need to carry sticks, wear skates, and you had better call the ball a puck ..." What a ignorant douche. http://omaha.com/article/20091129/SPORTS/711289807

It's all shtick, which would not have been a surprise had you read his byline--"-Omaha native Brad Dickson is a former writer for 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.'”

MuirtonPark
This is clearly what passes for humour in Nebraska. Must have been that big dump of snow they got in the past few days. The best way to deal with it is not to react or post an angry rebuttal, but just ignore it and move on.
Richard
The whole purpose of pieces like this is to spark a reaction from readers so the best thing is to ignore it and let it just fizzle away.
Kibby
Sometimes Canadians are far too sensitive.
gringo
It is typical mid American ignorance that caters to the mostly Republican Red States obscure knowledge of anything north of the 49th parrallel. He is simply feeding a stereotype of Canadian sport and turning it into satire in a Bill Maher sort of way...........

Johnnie Monster
I'm sorry - if you live in Nebraska, and your only claim to fame was setting up the lame ass "Jay Walking" segments on Leno, you have no business expecting people outside your little cornfield to find your schtick funny or remotely informative. MuirtonPark
On reading it again, it is clear that the column is not so much a joke, as it is an insiders' conversation confirming that the only thing that matters in the sports world is the NCAA college football scene, and every other sport can be dismissed. As a graduate of a Big 10 football factory many years ago, I remember many such conversations. It's hard for we Canadians to understand this, just as it was hard at the time to ignore the 72,000 crowds at every home game. And yes, we beat Nebraska. Having lived in the mid-west States for years and my business practice still takes me there, i know very well of the intent here. MuirtonPark is also correct that football is king, especialy colloege ball in a college town when there is no pro team close by. Many Americans know absolutely nothing about the world that exists just outside their border. They are the center of the world.
