As an Impact ticket subscriber I got in my mailbox today a letter from Joey Saputo, dated December 15, 2009. He says, "...As you know, we are working very hard in reorganizing our league and I wish to assure you that the Montreal Impact will play in a high level professional league next season.

We are currently finalizing this process and are quickly moving forward. As of now, I can guarantee you that the calibre of play will be the same, if not superior in 2010, as the Impact will be playing against the same teams and a few new franchises..." And the letter continues and mentions returning players; interestingly not including di Lorenzo, or any forwards, except for Rocco Placentino.

He then says, "Our highest priority is to offer you the best possible soccer next season. We are making every effort to solve the current situation and to have good news for you as of early next year when all season details and package prices will be confirmed.

Joey Saputo

President

Montreal Impact & Saputo Stadium"

Caught in a lie...there is mention of Sebrango. I had better quote the 5th paragraph. "I also wish to mention that the player core that helped us win the championship will be back in 2010. Players of the quality of Pizzolitto, Leduc, Jordan, Sebrango, Joqueviel and deRoux, to name just a few, will be back and we have also offered new contracts to our MVP David Testo, as well as to Quebec players Adam Braz and Rocco Placentino. We have moreover officialized Marc Dos Santos' title as head coach of the club."

The wording is a little clumsy, I agree, but, my understanding is that all of those players are under contract for 2010. David Testo is the only player that could get traded, but I think that it would take a sweet contract to tempt him away. The MLS doesnt guarantee their contracts unless you play into July .

Di Lorenzo is apparently looking for a wage increase on what is already a high wage for the league. He is the key player that the Impact are working to resign, now. Peter Byers I expect, and hope will be back to build upon his great end to the 2009 season. And Simon Gatti I expect to see with the Impact in 2010.

Brillant, ZanZan and the O'Briens, I think are all gone. Brown is rumoured to be leaving,as is Joey Gjerstsen. Tony Donatelli may be exploring a move to Philadelphia - I hope that works out for him - I rate him highly.

Most of this info comes from a story in Rue Frontenac http://ruefrontenac.com/sports/impact/14526-impact-mls-entrevue-de-santis That story says that the team roster will be 21, down from 25 players; and that the team will be looking to emphasize a movement towards youth.

Watch out guys... this sounds like the same bait and switch marketing ploy we saw with the Zidane tour!

Just kidding of course, I wish you guys the best.

I think its incredible that Canada's two oldest clubs are the driving forces behind massive changes on the continent's soccer scene.

Although Donatelli and Gjertsen are good USL players I think they aren't the most difficult to replace would be DiLo if he doesn't sign.
