MNT Soccer pubs

Hey all. Some Canadian Guys is in the midst of compiling a list of Canadian soccer pubs. What we're looking for are Canadian places (i.e., TFC/Whitecaps/Impact supporters bars and – mostly, from this board – bars that reliably screen MNT matches.

Here's the work-in-progress guide http://canadiansoccerblog.ca/pubguide/

We'd love to get the names of any bars or pubs anywhere in the country that are good places to watch Canadian footy.

Thanks.

(mods - if you want, feel free to lock this thread – people can send their suggestions to canadiansoccerguys@gmail.com)

Part of the problem is the MNT barely plays and when it does, it is not a big event unless you are a hardcore footy fan. Most Canadians probably didn't know we played Poland & Macedonia the other month, nor were able to watch it due to the times they were played. The other part is that games are mostly not televised by any of the sports channels we get in this country. Finally if they are at home, we are all generally at the game and have no need to find a bar.

So, aside from the usual bars in Toronto, I cannot really say who would show Canadian games. Sorry

That (that only hardcore footy fans know about the games) is the problem that we're (kinda) trying to fix. Because the CSA won't do it, some Canadian Guys are taking it upon ourselves to recommend bars that are good for Canadian soccer, like (sad sigh) the USSF does (as pointed out). If we can isolate a few bars in major cities that show our matches, we can all congregate there (when our games are on TV, and if we can't make it to them ourselves). Those bars might find being the only recommended bar for Canadian soccer in, say, Saskatoon, gives them occasional unexpected game-day business. Who knows – maybe they advertise in their window that they're showing the next game. People see that, next thing you know Canada wins the World Cup.

And, though we all try to get to the games, some Vancouver V's must have met somewhere to watch that horrible game against Honduras in Montreal, just like a few of us Toronto V's met up to watch the WCQ in Edmonton.

Also, if we have this list, and some non-V Googling where to go to catch an MNT game might just find a bar that will be full of fun-and-soccer loving V's.

In Waterloo, Razcle, I've watched EPL at Failte and I know there's Kick Off at University Plaza – are either of them any good for MLS/MNT? Or at least will they put it on if you march in and demand?

I organize gatherings for Canada games at various establishments in Vancouver but the only reason they show the game is because I bribe them with business. I call up ahead of time and say if you promise to leave one of your televisions on this channel between these times and I will bring x number of people to your bar and we will eat and spend money.

In fact, I often find that we go to many of the 'ethnic' cafes, essentially the same places all of the old Italian and South America men go to watch their games. The reason being...I know that these places have all of the illegal satelites so I will be able to get ESPN Deportes or whatever obscure channel will be broadcasting U23 Olympic qualifying.

Are any of these places Canadian soccer pubs...hell no!

Hey I completely understand what you are trying to do and I fully support it, I am just taking the devils advocate side here to explain that some of us have never seen a Canadian Footie match in our home towns. So I could list a group of bars in the KW area that show footie games regularly, but would they support a CMNT soccer viewing party over a baseball, basketball, hockey, Pointyball, tennis, EPL, UFC match. I can't be sure because I haven't had the chance to test the waters. I just head down to Toronto where I know I can find a good group of V's to watch the match with at Scally's and alike.

The Red Patch Boys KW crew use Failite as a main home base and regularly check out other venues to see if there is better atmosphere elsewhere. I don't know if many would get together to watch the CMNT unless it was a big game, (which unfortunately doesnt come very often). But if its any help to you a few good footie bars are; MolleyBlooms (near kickoffs), The Duke of Wellington, Failite, Beaver and Bulldog (Cambridge), and in Wasaga Beach - Wild Wings, because Boston Pizza would rather show UFC $h!te.

Meh just wait for the next home friendly when we can all fly out to the venue and get drunk at the live game instead of in front of a tv. :D

TFCRegina, are you in Regina right now?

Yes, I'm back for another year or so, until I move out of this frozen ****hole to a warmer place.

I have to give a shout out to Johnny Rottens in Dunnville Ontario, they were good enough to put the Canada-Honduras GC match on for me while I was vacationing at a local marina! Lots of regulars got into to watching it even though they really weren't hardcore soccer supporters!
