Anyone care to set up our vote.

As in the past, it should be a combination of club and national team performance.

Edit (Loyola):

It's year end and once again the Voyageurs invite all members to participate in our annual polling for International Player of the Year.

As per tradition all submissions for the IPoY will be conducted in public, in this topic. You are welcome to edit your submission at any time up until the deadline for submissions.

The deadline for submissions is 12:01 AM (EST) January 1st, New Years Day 2010.

Submissions for IPoY must have a first place selection and can also include a second, and third place selection.

A point system is used to calculate a players points total at the completion of polling. A player will receive 5 points for a 1st place selection, 3 points for a 2nd place selection, and 1 point for a third place selection.

The player with the highest final aggregate total will be declared the Voyageurs International Player of the Year.

A couple of other rules.

Only one submission per IP address. Additional submissions from the same IP address allowed entirely at the Administrators discretion.

For a player to be eligible for the Voyageurs International Player of the Year the player must have been selected for international duty at either the senior or U20 level in 2009 and be eligible to play for Canada, in accordance with FIFA laws & statutes, as of December 7th, 2009.

2. Will Johnson

1. Mike Klukowski

3. Josh Simpson.

Changed my mind. Had Will J on top due to his MLS championship but time for Mike K to be recognized. He is one of the best left backs in CONCACAF as evidenced by his Gold Cup all tournament team selection. Will J has plenty of years to get his.

<s>1. Dwayne De Rosario (dominant in our national championship, more dominant in his league than any other Canadian in theirs, loses points for skipping the Gold Cup but gets some back for being a marketable Canadian star playing for a Canadian team).</s> Ineligible, per loyola.

1. Mike Klukowski (probably the most skilled player in the country and looks like he's going to win this thing handily, but not at De Rosario's level in a league not much better than MLS.)

2. Dejan Jakovic (one of the best centrebacks in MLS.)

3. Will Johnson (strong MLS player in a difficult position on a pretty good team.)

I don't want to be picky but DeRo hasn't been called in 2009 for the MNT, he isn't eligible for the award (just like Hoillet, Nana and Onstad).

Here's my picks:

1 Kluka

2 JDG

3 Jakovic

How can you say he is not at DeRo's level in the league? He is a starting defender at one of the top clubs in Belgium that is playing in Europa League. I think MLS with its parity is probably at par with the Belgian 1st division if one looks at the league as a whole but the top clubs like Brugge are well ahead of the top MLS clubs let alone poor ones like TFC. Saying he is not playing at DeRo's level is classic discrimination against a solid defender as opposed to a flashy forward.

I also don't understand how people can select JDG for this. For the first half of the year he was the guy playing at the highest club level but yet was consistently mediocre and disappointing with the national team. Then he takes a massive drop in club level but despite this also has pretty mediocre performances in MLS and still plays pretty poorly with the national team. There may be some reasons for this like being out of game shape and hopefully next year he will shine more but there is no denying that this was probably one of the worst years in his career. If one showed our national team games this year to outsiders who don't know the team and asked them to pick which player was in La Liga I doubt DeGuzman would be have been picked very often.

My list would be:

1. Klukowski

2. Radzinski

3. Jakovic

Jackson would be honourable mention since he has progressed at the club level significantly. He has broken in to the national team but has yet to perform with the same success as with his club so I can't include him in the top 3 just yet. I do find this list poor in that Radzinski is at the end of his career and while Jakovic has looked promising he hasn't really excelled either but I think the weakness of the list is indicative of how poorly the national team has played this year.

I guess with Radz I am still thinking a bit about the WCQ which is last year so I will remove him due to only playing one game. A problem with the list is we played so few games it is hard to pick anyone who wasn't at the Gold Cup. I think Julian made the all star team based on him being our biggest name and his impressive performance in the previous GC. I thought he was pretty mediocre in the last one and the last games that I recall him really impressing in were the Brazil one and the aforementioned previous Gold Cup edition. I will replace Radz with Johnson then because he was strong in the GC. One could make the argument that Johnson was not better than JDG but I think as a veteran player who has played at the highest level one needs to judge JDG to a higher standard than an up and coming young player and he has consistently disappointed over the last two years.

1. Klukowski

2. Jakovic

3. Johnson
