New Jerseys?

The current CSA logo is crap. It's outdated, and completely uninspired. If there was some tradition to cling to, it could probably be salvaged by updating several of the design elements, but the whole ball/maple leaf thing has been done to death.

Without blowing my own horn too much, I believe both Jarrek and I had much better designs a few years ago during the phantom logo contest. Hell, I'd be willing to do a logo for the CSA for FREE just to give them a more professional and modern look.

Maybe I should post some more ideas. I haven't really been all that inspired since the "We got Jacked at the CONCACRAP Gold Cup 2007" t-shirt design contest...

I'd like to see those designs if possible... are they still around on this fourm? Do you have a link, please?

Thanks

But on another note I agree that the CSA logo looks outdated and should be remade.. Maybe have a crest like USSF, or something more ''prestigious''.

I like the current logo. Three elements are plenty and this is coming from a Southampton follower: crest has a halo (Saint Mary church), soccer ball (it's a soccer team), scarf with Saints' colours (red and white), a tree (the Dell and historical forest), water (it's a port town), a Flower (why the hell not), and the club name.

What does Canada need? You must have a beaver as it is our national symbol, the grain fields of the prairies are important so put some wheat on it, it is a soccer associatin so you need a ball, the Scots played a big role in the colonization of the country so put some tartan in it, don't forget the Ukes and the 1st Nation people so you need blue and yellow and a tomahawk, you obviously need a maple leaf, Toronto is the center of the universe so put the CN Tower in, and finally you need a totem ploe, an oil rig, a fleur de lis, a bottle of screech and don't forget the tuba!

There are legitimate complaints about the logo but I think it could be cleaned up without major overhaul. That's just my opinion.

Generally I agree (although we might debate what “cleaned up” might mean). To me I’d probably keep all the elements but design the thing entirely.

Here’s one that somebody drew on the board a while back (sorry can’t find the post, just the pic on google). While the ball is big, at least it's somewhat modern.

It's not that I could do any better...but this one looks a little busy and looks to much like the Volley Ball Canada logo

Well blown up like that it is going to look a little extreme. Anyway, I am by no means suggesting that’s what a new crest should look like, it’s just something that was kicking around before. I'd also say that's the first time i've ever seen the V-ball Canada logo in my life, so i'm not too concerned about confusion.

It’s hard to have a discussion about this kind of stuff because design and branding is very “black box”. Every rule twists and turns onto itself. But there are some very obvious ways in which this thing is out-dated and crappy.

Anyway, I’d point out that you don’t necessarily need to be blatant about putting a soccer ball into a logo to show people it’s soccer Canada (or write Canada in big letters either). There are plenty of other ways to accomplish that message (especially when you are talking about what you want to put on the shirt).

I don't have Jarrek's design (which I thought was better than mine.), but here's what I submitted 4 years ago. I'd like to think I could do better now... If I get some time, maybe I'll give it a shot.

I would like our new jerseys looking like the old 1987 Canada Cup hockey jerseys that had the Maple leaf that was cut in half covering the bottam half of the jersey.

Are you kidding? We had something like that in the 90's not one of my favourites

Yea. I asked on the old board if there was any way any amature with unique content could load a page onto the V's site to make it available to the general public. I never really got a response.

Please email me with directions on how I can load this page up as I would like to complete it the best I can and hopefully once it is up I can get help to fill in the missing pieces.

this is something i have been wanting to do for some time.

but it's more than just the logo. they need to revitalize their entire marketing strategy. starting from the ground up. the identity of the team first of all should never be left up to fans to create - that is wrong. if we are to compete on the world stage, we need canada and the rest of the world know that we belong there too. and it starts with support from within canada. make people believe that we are who we say we are. and simultaneously, create the same vision on the pitch.

csa, i am available. you need help and i can help you!

dump canada soccer properties. they are a waste of time!

I couldn't agree more Hodgkiss. I started a thread on this subject 4-5 months ago and got very little support here. I wrote a letter to the CSA as well and sent it to every email address that I could find, with no response. The CSA has zero marketing, and therefore makes absolutely zero money on products of any type. It's actually difficult to even buy these shirts that we're discussing, to the point where the only people who have one are hardcore fans (ie. us) who would buy them no matter what.

Hopefully Montopoli realizes this and when we get our new kits sometime this year we'll see some actual merchandise on the shelves. It's a no brainer, and if done correctly a money pot for the CSA.

Not to mention that it would indeed draw soccer-playing children across the country towards realizing that we even have a national team.

Also I bought the white 2004-05 jersey and my bro bought the red 2004-05 jersey did not look like this on pictured on the site i just found from the thread. http://www.eng.uwaterloo.ca/~edean/soccer/Canadian-Jerseys.html

Haha, I just re-read my post and realized i wrote "the real shits". The current shirts are quite shit though so I guess it applies.

I really love the current USA shirts. You wear those not just because you support the team, but because it actually looks good. I wish we could get Roots to do something like that for us.

No, my gut tells me that Adidas going away might be legit. I don't know why - just evidence as of late. It's not just the Soccer Canada store (which I had a bad experience with) being out of stock for the last 1 1/2 years , but ShopAdidas.ca, who have NEVER carried any Canada Merchandise (although were well stocked with Toronto FC Gear until late as well). I believe the Jersey you see in that clip is practice, and is what the team has been wearing during training for a year or so now.

  • 2 weeks later...

In case anyone else has tried the Soccer Canada Store website lately, this is the response I got from them after e-mailing them asking about whether they would be getting any of the 2007/2008/2009 jerseys in stock anytime soon:

"I am sorry we are not receiving any new stock on the 2007 or the 2008 jerseys at this time. We are looking into the current jersey but have not placed an order for them yet.

Thank you

Customer service."

Not entirely sure about what they mean by "looking into the current jersey" but I just figured I'd post this in case anyone else was wondering what the jersey situation was.
