Watchmen
It's well known that the Whitecaps have been looking for a technical director with MLS experience to help them with the transition. Marc Weber of The Province is reporting that former D.C. United coach Tom Soehn has been in town talking with management this week about the role. I really don't know anything about him. Thoughts? http://communities.canada.com/theprovince/blogs/backofthenet/archive/2009/11/29/former-d-c-united-coach-on-the-caps-radar.aspx#comments
BringBackTheBlizzard
Probably not a bad move as he is one of the top MLS coaches out of work at the moment. Think having somebody with an in depth knowledge of the league on board is an absolute must given the importance of the expansion draft, trades and selecting players on waivers in putting together a competitive roster in year one. VPjr
Tom Soehn might be better suited for a TD job than a head coaching job. He definitely knows the league and its rules. I may not be a big fan of some of his coaching philosophies (that 3 man backline he insisted on using this past season was a disaster) but I think he is generally a very solid soccer professional who would be a big help to an organization like Whitecaps as they make the jump to MLS. Tuscan
I'd see Soehn as a steal as a director at this point. The guy has been part of a very successful MLS club for a number of years and *should* have quite in depth knowledge of the ins and outs of the league. I also have faith in Vancouver's ability to build a strong organization.
TheKottonmouthed1555362307
This is another great move forward to buliding truly competetive club in both the MLS and CONCACAF Champions League. First Paul Barber form the Spurs now this. The real question is if Tietur has another successful season is he brought back as coach or do they go for a MLS vet coach; personally as a Caps fan I would love to see Thordarsson get a chance at the MLS especially if he has another impressive season. That would make 3 seasons of nothing, but success in North America which I think has to put the ball in his court come time to make the jump to the MLS.
