Eric
Well, he said all the right things. I'm not sure if he answered all the questions because without hearing what the questions were, it become very difficult to know if he was not avoiding anything. I think he could be what the club needs and best of all, he's not a British coach, therefore I expect to see a new style with a winning mentality played on the field. Good luck Predrag Radosavlijevic, make it happen for us next season.
VPjr
One thing is for sure about Preki...he's not going to tolerate slackers. If nothing else, that will help the team's performance. I know there are some players on the team who are laughing at the thought of how some of their teammates (the lesser motivated lot that dragged the team down) are going to deal with a no nonesense coach like Preki. I have to believe that Mo is smart/cunning enough to know that he needs to stay out of Preki's way as much as possible and that will mean that he likely will stop protecting his favorites for the good of his own job security. If Preki wants someone gone, he's going to be gone
Richard
There is no room for baggage any any team with winning aspirations, especially players with oversized, unjustified egos.
tmcmurph
It is good to see they gave him (or he insisted on) a 3 year contract. That sends a nice message to the players. The coach will be here, so do as he wants if you want to stay here! Should be interesting next year.

Guevara gone for sure. I hear the shopping of his services has already commenced. TFC wants to get into the 1st round of the draft. With the news that Houston stands to lose both Stuart Holden AND Ricardo Clark, it strikes me that Guevara in Houston might be a fit, although I'm not sure they would give up a 1st round pick for Guevara, his 300K salary and the fact he'll be missing some time for WC prep early in the season. I wonder how much allocation TFC has to distribute
Tuscan
I'd expect that Guevara might end up going to a club in Honduras and not staying in MLS. He's too old at this point to be worth that much to an MLS side, and his absence next summer brings his value down even more. Yes he has mad skillz and can sometimes pull goals out his ass, but if TFC's goal with him is to get a 1st round pick, I don't see a way it'll happen unless they not only send him to the club, but also pretty much pay the club for their 1st round pick on top of it. When your wife is tweeting they won't be back in Toronto, it's not a pleasant exit, but more of a "let's get the hell outta here."
BringBackTheBlizzard
One interesting snippet that nobody has mentioned yet is that towards the end of the news conference Mo Johnston mentioned that Preki might be bringing in one or two coaches. I suspect that could be bad news for Nick Dasovic and Mike Toshack although Mo Johnston did make it sound like they could be moved over to the Academy. Nothing unusual in a new coach wanting to appoint his own assistants.
Richard
If Dasovic finds himself out of contract I would not be surprised to see him back in Vancouver in some capacity with the Whitecaps organisation. The Caps did not renew three year fist team assistant coach Todd Wawrousek's contract for next season.
ag futbol
It is good to hear that he will bring in some of his own staff. Sounds like Guevara is gone ... the expansion draft list could be telling. Needless to say i like his emphasis on a team game and individual skill on the ball. Judging by his comments about building from the back, I'd expect Wynne's life span to be extremely short.
Grizzly
Good answers to the questions and he makes a good impression though I have seen a lot other coaches make a similar impression and fail. Nevertheless, I like his attitude and it kind of sucks for me to like a TFC coach! Why can't you guys hire more guys like Mo and Carver who are incompetent and easy to hate (or even Cummins who was at least incompetent though not easy to hate)! BringBackTheBlizzard
quote:Originally posted by BearcatSA Is the team going to jettison Nick Garcia, Mo and Preki's former teammate in KC? If two players are close in ability that sort of sentiment can maybe be a factor in who gets signed but when jobs and careers are on the line I seriously doubt that it would ever apply when a player is obviously struggling badly. Will be interesting to see what happens. Last time around elaborate explanations were provided as to why Greg Sutton and Rohan Ricketts could safely be left unprotected but they were both gone before the contract guarantee date deadline. The list of players left unprotected will provide a strong indication as to who Preki doesn't rate. I suspect a relatively big name will wind up in Philadelphia. I believe that, yes, Garcia will be bought out by TFC before whatever date the MLS sets forth for getting that done without having his salary count toward the cap. What an enormous waste of money. I wonder if Gerba is going to get the same treatment.

Free kick
Everything I hear and read since the Preki hiring has me concerned. there is an under tone of whole sale changes throughout and that has me concerned as to what this means for club I just dont see why an overhaul is even needed given. A fine tunning ( a more productive striker and someone who can plug the leaks on defense ) is whats needed. One of the teams playing in the finals tmrw finished just one point ahead of TFC and only surpassed them on the final day of action so TFC is not exactly the RED BULLS. When I hear of overhaul, I fear for the canadian contingent. And as far as other players, if Guevarra is gone, well there goes one of your best player. I dont see how that makes us better. And, as far as the new "defense first philospohy", the interesting thing about what I keep hearding about Preki is that he stikes me as the kind of coach whose appproach we could use for the National team. But for TFC, I wonder what this does for canadians who are developing in that that kind of system. Remember what we need to develop for the NT is more players with refined offensive skills. Richard
I suspect that message is deliberate, putting current players on notice to perform and toe the line or they'll be gone. I doubt any coach worth his salt will move in and make wholesale changes just for the sake of making change.

I saw some incredible potential when i saw him and Deguzman playing together. With bit more time and chemistry, you could really have something there with those two. With OBW having an extra year under his belt and/or possibly acquiring a more productive fwd, a replacement for Garcia and with the gambians having one year under their belt as pro's, and your there. jimmynow
Preki also made the point, however, that he has to like most of the core 18 players, since he can't move them all.. hahah.
