MLS Cup Semi-Finals; and TSN, and Score, and Sportsnet, lead with Hockey...it's the little things folks, it's the little things...

My friend, we are a looooooong way away from TSN, The Score, or Sportsnet choosing to lead with soccer over hockey.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Canadians who watch those channels are more interested in seeing who won the Leafs/Hawks or Flames/Sabres games over the LA/Houston MLS Cup match...... Myself included [:I]

Damn, Calgary picked up a point...

I hear ya. What's driven me crazy about Canadian Sports Networks in the past is when a they are actually showing a game and it still gets buried in the back end of their sports news shows. You would think that that they would use the lead off spot to hype their own programming! I remember this happening with Premier League matches. It's like they're embarassed that they were desperate enough to show the game in the first place.

Fair enough if Sportsnet showed a game and TSN ignored or buried it... that makes sense... why promote the competition's product. But when you've bought the rights and STILL bury it... it's just bad business.

Were talking about playoff's compared to regular season play. If the MLB or NBA or NFL were in the playoff's you know he Canadian sports shows would lead with that over hockey. When will soccer break through in that manner...when will producers begin to give it an opportunity to shine...again, it's the little things, the little things.

Who cares about MLS in Canada. MLS would be lucky to even be featured in Sportcentre/Connected/The Score. Especially if it`s not TFC. If TFC was in the playoffs, it`s a totally diffrent scenario. But, it is 8 mediocre american teams. Chelsea-ManU last week was bigger to soccer fans then MLS playoffs semis.

Let`s make it simple

MLB, NBA and NFL all have the best players in the business. CFL has

Canadians on every team and is played in Canada. MLS is a mediocre league with few Canadians.

Tell me one good reason why should MLS playoffs lead SportsCentre

I guess my point was that until the MLS is given it's fair shake of the stick with the media, it will always be considered a second tier league in comparison to the other four major sports in North America.

If NFL, MLB or the NBA were in the playoffs...Sportsnet and/or TSN would lead with those sports over Hockey. None of those were in playoffs that evening, but MLS was...and still Hockey was the lead. Now don't get me wrong, I understand that Hockey is considered #1 in Canada (even if it's not in terms of participation levels), but it would be nice if the North American media would at least give it an opportunity by showcasing it during their playoffs.

Hate to get picky, but I'm pretty sure that in my market (Vancouver) Sportsnet will usually lead with the Canucks game over MLB, NFL, and especially NBA playoffs - particularly the earlier rounds.

The fact of the matter is that Vancouver is a hockey city (I assume other Canadian markets are too, but won't speak for them). Just like Barcelona, Buenos Aires, and London are likely "football" cities. Don't expect much to change.

If anything, a positive change would be Snet/TSN even showing MLS highlights, never mind leading. Baby steps!:D

It's definitely reaching quite a bit to think the MLS playoffs, featuring no Canadian teams, would lead over anything. Hell, MLS playoffs are probably relegated to the final 30 seconds of the broadcast even in the markets of the teams that are actually playing.

So true. Imagine the NYRB are in the playoffs and playing today (hard to do but give it a try...), but at the same time there are rumors about the Yankees possibly on the verge of signing a Triple-A dude as their 3rd-string SS. What makes the lead ?

The Yankees are God in NY, then way behind there's the Mets, Giants and Jets. The Knicks/Nets ? These are page 9 stuff. Nevermind the Rangers/Devils/Islanders... So in a country of over 300 M with so many different diasporas represented, where every team but one are located and so many different media are available, how does the MLS fare currently ?

How could it be different here ?

EDIT: FTM, see the LA Times Sports page here. To anyone that is still doubting soccer is a REALLY MINOR sport in the States, go check this, that's gonna give you a reality check for sure. So many articles on so many different sports, yet ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the LA Galaxy that are to play in the MLS Cup Final. Hey, they even got Beck with them, looks like even superstars can't draw the attention of the media (I'm talking about performances on the field here...). Heck, I can even find 10 (!!!) articles about NHL !!! In SoCal !!! And half of them are about the league in general and game recaps, not even talking about the Kings or Ducks.

Once again, how could it be different here ?
