Duane Rollins1555362254
Reliable sources have confirmed that Stephen Hart will have the interim label removed and lead Canada towards 2014. http://www.24thminute.com/2009/11/its-official-stephen-hart-will-lead.html Edit - I originally wrote 2016. I, of course, meant 2014. I must have had Olympics on the mind.
Bertuzzi44
Congrats to Stephen, and good luck in the future. We are all hoping you find success! A coupla wins in Europe would be a nice way to start:D
Soccerpro
Finally he's given the opportunity he should have been given after Gold Cup #1, I still can't believe some people on this board supported Dale Mitchell over him...
ray
Glad the CSA has finally decided. It gives Hart a long lead-up to the start of qualifying in 2012. Now he needs the finances in place to be able to play more friendlies, especially against CONCACAF opposition.
Cheeta
Well, he's in it now. Congrats & good luck. Really is an excellent time to come in isn't it? All things considered he's got plenty of time to figure out whatever he need to figure out. Doesn't have a huge amount of pressure to produce immediate results and is enjoying a justifiable degree of confidence & respect from our player pool. Success builds on success. If the CSA can get the NT a steady diet of matches and Hart can start to harvest some FIFA points along the way our lads may learn how to win when it matters. Guest Can. in UK
1) He's enthusiastic. 2) He understands the CSA's and the MNT's weaknesses/He's realistic. 3) He's likeable. 4) He's familiar with CONCACAF. 5) He's committed to Canadian football. What could possibly go wrong?
TFCRegina
Finally some good news. If we can boost those World Rankings on our way to the WCQ, we may just get a favourable group!
canucklefan
quote:Originally posted by Can. in UK What could possibly go wrong? Having our NMT failing to qualify to another WC. While I'm positive to this move, I don't take this decision from the CSA for granted.
bettermirror
to 2016? That's 3 gold cups and 1 world cup cycle? Some consistency would be great. He seems personable and understands mentality of todays players, and is passionate. Hopefully others come to the country club who are currently considering their options - both those players that are known and those that are young and not yet known. gator
I think it's a good move, I like the guy! He lacks experience and I was dissapointed with his coaching in the GC QF (even though we were screwed by the ref), he has lots of things going for him! He seems to "get" the game and what's going on with the Canadian soccer team, players like him and he will have time to gain more experience! A big name high profile coach was never coming, so this was a good option, he'll bring stability to the program!
BearcatSA
I hope he'll do a good job of building the squad depth and creating more competition for places.
gkhs
I'm as big a Hart fan as one could rationally be. And yet, I hope that if we have another Honduras in Montreal debacle in 2012 the CSA would be willing to pull the plug and bring in a qualification specialist coach. I love the idea of giving a coach a few years of building time, but I still hate the idea of giving one an entire cycle regardless of the results. one92fifth
I don't mind the idea of having stability. It gives peace of mind to the players and Hart himself to know the situation and then hopefully they can put more of a focus on playing as many games as possible and getting results. CUJO
Mabye the "success" Hart has had is only a result of the "new manager" effect, and after a while at the helm, the players will grow complacent of Hart and start being less "successful". /pessimist
youllneverwalkalone
Personally I feel Hart's early success is indicative that he intuitively understands how to manage. Football is quite a simple game when played correctly, especially at the international level. He calls the best players available and let's them play without getting bogged down in tactical, motivational, or political issues.
Guest Ed
I am in favour of this because Hart knows the Concacaf situation, knows our best players (having coached a lot of them as youths) and with his official status will have the best chance of getting Hoilett on the team. The performance of the 'sub' team in this year's Gold Cup, where our 2nd team gave an excellent performance, outpossessing the full Costa Rica team against Costa Rica, shows me he is the man for this job. Loud Mouth Soup
I'm surprised more people here aren't excited that we've hired a foreign coach. /go go Gadget sarcasm!
Lord Bob
The CSA is just delaying on the announcement to see if Rafa Benitez is going to be available.
VPjr
^ If anyone has reviewed the Pathway to Excellence document that Bill Spiers posted on another thread and scrolls to the end to review the bdugets for future years, I think its a pretty safe bet that Rafa Benitez might be a tad out of their price range. I found it interesting that the CSA is budgeting more coaching salary expenses for our WNT in 2010 than for our MNT.

Fort York Redcoat1555362293
^Negative Nelly. It's seems more of a gesture to string Hart along for as long as they can but I can't see him as the coach for the next entire cycle. It feels like another band-aid, least they could do type move.
